Tin Cup is Ron Shelton movie.
Amazingly, he is a far better writer than a director. Yeah he's fine, he knows pacing and how to cast extremely well and get the shots, but his scripts are some of the more well written drama-comedy quotable films of the last 30 yrs.
I'd seriously put his dialogue for a stretch in the 80s and 90s on par with James L. Brooks and Woody Allen - - just with a little different, much more blue colar flavor.
He had some misses as well, but, probably got paid a lot for those, but when he was in his wheelhouse of sports and relationships, he was way on.
Bull Durham, Tin Cup, White Men Can't Jump, Blue Chips... all written by Shelton...a former minor league ballplayer.
