I think this is incomplete analysis. He was a pretty good writer, but it is obvious, in hindsight, he viewed that skill as necessary evil. He was better at coming up with story ideas and doing EP-type stuff. Over time, at least the better stuff, he brought in good screenwriters and directors.

Part of his mistake with the prequels was he had replaced all the talented folks who challenged him/made him better with yes men.

Whether palpatine is fully dead or has clones or not, Darth Vader killing him has meaning.
