The Vampire Diaries and The Originals

I have seen the Originals and really loved it. If my
Google-fu is skrong then it appears that Vampire diaries is the origin of the Originals.
Just curious as to the boards thoughts on The Vampire Diaries. I am thinking that it must be pretty good if it warranted a spinoff as good as The Originals.

Don't know but I did enjoy the Originals in part for ladies that were on it.

Wife (girlfriend at the time) and I used to love them when we were in college. It's been years, but feels like toward the end of the Vampire Diaries there was some plot armor for the main characters that got absurd but par for the course of a CW show.
