Beyond the "But why?" and casting, my big concern is that I just watched The Hot Zone Ebola series on National Geo and it was very poorly done.

Holy shite! I had no idea this was a thing. I'm so freaking excited about it. If it does well...maybe it'll expand and cover projects Gemini and Apollo before signing off the air.

It sounds like they're just re-hashing the movie with no-name actors

The Right Stuff is sacrosanct to me

Unless it delves deeper into the book, I just don't see the point

Very skeptical

The Long Road Home was the same way.

I wouldn't count on Tom Wolfe writing anymore space program books.

‘The Right Stuff’ TV Series Lands at Disney+ This Fall
quote:

The Right Stuff is making a landing at Disney+ this fall. National Geographic‘s scripted drama series, based on Tom Wolfe’s bestselling nonfiction account of the early days of NASA, has found a home at Disney+, which will debut the eight-episode TV series this fall.

Disney+ announced that National Geographic’s The Right Stuff TV series will premiere on the streaming service this fall. Produced for National Geographic by Appian Way and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, The Right Stuff adapts Tom Wolfe’s nonfiction novel about the early days of NASA, which was first turned into an acclaimed 1983 feature film directed by Philip Kaufman. This eight-episode scripted series is billed as a “clear-eyed look at what would become America’s first ‘reality show,'” that will dive further into the lives of the “ambitious astronauts and their families become instant celebrities in a competition that could kill them or make them immortal,” according to the Disney+ press release.

Because the story of those brave early explorers of outer space should be told and re-told for every new generation. The Right Stuff is a classic film, one of my favorites, but I'm in a small minority of milennials who have actually even heard of it, let alone seen it.

Remaking the book into an eight episode series, and launching it on Disney+, will do wonders for its viewership footprint. If it does well the showrunners have said they will expand the series all the way through Apollo.

I can get on board with that.

Because...

The fact that they're putting it on Disney+ gives me more hope. National Geo's dramatic series have been shite, but I don't think that Disney would showcase it on their shiny new streaming service if it was crap.

We should know as we get closer, seeing if they promote it heavily or just sneak it onto the service while we're not looking.
