So, long story short - I was having trouble sleeping the other night, and figured I'd put a movie with subtitles on to ease me into sleep. Basically I wasn't expecting much from this movie, but I ended up waking up super early and couldn't stop watching it once it got rolling.

This is considered a horror/dark movie, but it was more than that. Whether you agree with the subject matter or not, it gets you thinking. Great movies aren't just for entertainment; they don't preach. A great movie should both entertain you and dare you to think. It stays with you after watching it.

Id love feedback from anyone else who can enjoy a movie with subtitles.

Also, what movies have you seen that have more than just entertained you, but affected you for some time? Boy with the striped pajamas was another one for me.

Was into it at first, but felt it dragged a ton and the messages were very heavy handed.. pretty disappointing

I recently watched the platform and Shotcaller back to back after searching and knowing nothing about them previously. Funny coincidence.

The Platform- I cant watch dubbed movies, so I turned the subs on and watched it with Spanish -original. The movie was great for about an hour before it lost its way and they gave up on the end. I realized after it was over, that this was a message first, that they built a movie around. That never works in the end. I would still recommend it because of the uniqueness. Just remember that the first hour is the only part worth watching,

Shot Caller - I enjoyed this all the way thru. Not a great movie but definitely entertaining. A little bit of a far fetched story, knowing what I do about the prison system in this country.

I couldn't disagree with this more. Entertainers shouldn't be in the business of anything but entertainment. It ruins the suspension of disbelief and ruins the story. Besides, people who spend their entire lives acting and creating stories should be the last people to take seriously when discussing real life.
