Pacific is very good
This. I'd say Pacific gets more deep on fewer characters but lacks the overall unit cohesion factors and storyline of BoB. It's a great show though.

The Pacific is better than 90 to 95% of TV and cinema. It is better than good. It is great.
However, Band of Brothers is better than 99.9% of TV and cinema. It is a singular achievement in not just war dramas or drama in general, but in filmmaking as a whole.
Band of Brothers is, without doubt, the greatest mini-series of all time and sits atop the mountain of film with some of the greatest shows in TV and greatest movies in cinema history.
Expecting the Pacific to match Band of Brothers is like expecting lightning to strike you twice while winning the lottery.
That said, if you watched Band of Brothers on anything less than Blu-Ray and a 50" plus 1080p TV with HD Surround Sound, I recommend watching it again. I would certainly recommend you watch it again if you first saw it on History Channel and it was edited for time and content.

exactly
BoB is the GOAT
The Pacific is very good
The Pacific dragged badly in spots, but the attack on the airfield on Peleliu was astounding

If you go into The Pacific expecting Band of Brothers, you'll be severely disappointed.
Yes & No.
Band of Brothers was just so good, that nothing is going to compare. I will say, when I finished watching The Pacific, my opinion was that it was simply not that great and nowhere near BoB's class.
Then I watch it a 2nd time and actually gave it a chance and it surprised me. Watch it for what it is. It's different from BoB, but it's still really good.
Part of the draw of BoB was the relationship you built with the characters of the show (especially if you watched it more than once).
Trying to do that all over again, with new characters is difficult and thus will skew your view of The Pacific.

WWII in HD Color plays all the time on the Military Channel (now AHC) and is a great synopsis of the Second World War.
This. I've been recording and watching WWII in Color and it's fantastic.

The Pacific was great, but it doesn't have the character or story development of BoB. Also, the Pacific front just didn't have the "glory", for lack of a better word, that the war in Europe had. Shitty war, on dozens of little tropical islands, against a despicable, inhuman enemy.
