The thing about Nicholson is to me all his best work was early in his career.

Five Easy Pieces & Chinatown are both great movies and among my favorite 70s movies.

But after the 70s I thought these were pretty good roles & movies of his:

The Postman Always Rings Twice
Prizzi's Honor
The Two Jakes
A Few Good Men
Blood and Wine
Mars Attacks!
The Departed

And I've been meaning to check out The Pledge. But I can't stand As Good as It Gets

Groening always brought out the best in Jack. See Terms of Endearment.

Humphrey Bogart.

Yeah, I said it. Come at me, bro.

Ok.

Movies of his I consider great:

Angels with Dirty Faces
The Roaring Twenties
(Though those two are really Jimmy Cagney movies)
High Sierra
The Maltese Falcon
Casablanca
To Have and Have Not
The Big Sleep
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre
In a Lonely Place
The Harder They Fall

And that's not even naming the ones that I think are just good.

If you're talking about talent and range compared to hype, the obvious answer to this question is John Wayne. Tom Hanks is the most overrated actor that is currently active right now. He's gotten so boring and stale since he stopped doing comedies after Philadelphia. As for Sean Penn, he is one of the best actors of his generation. I bet you're hating on him because of his politics.

And some Gems like:

Stagecoach
Dark Command
Red River
She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

I rarely come here and the 1st thread I see is this CRAP????? NO SEAN PENN IS MONEY. A great actor. You must be like 20 or something. Watch Bad Boys from the 80'S AND he started with Fast Times at Ridgemont High and LOOK stupid for a reason. Like I said the guy REAL GOOD.

That I would agree with he hasn't done a thing I liked since Road to Perdition and that was 10 years ago.

U Turn too. That's one acid laced neo-noir. And one of only three Oliver Stone movies I like along with Platoon & The Doors.

Of today it is George Clooney.
I'm totally 180 on this. Clooney is one of the best actors of all time, in spite of the fact he's an a-hole.

Here's my pick:

When you're watching his movies, you're always aware you're watching a paid actor...

Honorable mention: Danny DeVito

I don't get the Conster hate he's been in some good ones:

The Untouchables
No Way Out
Open Range

Revenge & A Perfect World I always thought were extremely underrated.

How about Johnny Depp in his annual hookups with Tim Burton? That shite is the dirt worst.

Hey guys Depp's wearing a costume and acting all weird again!

Cast Away is the ONLY performance worth noting by Hanks in the last 15 years. He's been average to mediocre for a long time and his peak wasn't that great. He was far better and more interesting to watch as an actor in his early comedy years than when he started doing all these serious dramas.

I quite liked both Ed Wood & Sleepy Hollow.
