Took me until recently to get around and watch this one. Had a decent cast (Michael Cain, Vin Diesel, Elijah Wood, Rose Leslie), so it seemed worth a shot.

While it had a workable premise, there were parts that just seemed like someone forgot something in the editing process. Characters get introduced, forgotten, then show up for some significant reveal .. nope. Never mind.

When I looked up on Wiki, it says it's based on Vin Diesel's "Dungeons & Dragons campaigns of Vin Diesel's Melkor the Witch-Hunter."

Wut??

Melkor wasn't his character's name in the movie, so is this just some random reference about one of his D&D sessions or something? Melkor, is an exclusive JRR Tolkien character, so this left me a bit confused.

Anyway, if there was an attempt to start some sort of franchise, it clearly flopped. Should have been putting his efforts into finishing the Riddick saga, and left the D&D stuff in the basement.

Apparently they are making a sequel.

From what I can remember, this was 100% a passion project of Diesels based on his love of D&D. He hired a screenwriter who was also an avid D&D player. I'm sure the name change was for legal reasons.

I mean, it had a fairly decent backstory. But the ending was left a little bit vague, probably on purpose? I’m not sure if I fully picked up on subtlety, but it definitely seemed to leave room for a sequel.

Yeah he had planned on making it his next franchise until it tanked. We'll see if the sequel ever gets done.

Problem with being an 'immortal' is that if you wait too long between movies, it gets really ridiculous.

idk why i thought of this movie and this thread

Poor Vin Deisil, born to make high fantasy, forced to do Fast & The Furious 37.

He also bought the rights to Pitch Black and created a pretty good space fantasy trilogy.

Yeah, I'll accept proper demerits for not posting a pic.
