I always thought this movie was great. The movie portrayed the industrialization of Japan in the late 19th century by showing how Japan went from an isolationist and feudalistic country into a global power in only 30-40 years.

Just want to echo the praise for this film. Have always loved it. Soooo many good characters, with great acting, cinematography, historical basis, writing.... An absolute gem.
