Johnny Depp was originally attached to this movie but that was dropped when the whole dark universe concept was dropped.
Depp is toxic waste right now. They'd have dropped him even if Dracula and the Mummy had been a huge successes. He's out of the tent pole business.

Did you read the article? Elizabeth Moss' character is the focal point of the film. I don't see how you can't understand that, unless you lack basic reading comprehension skills.
‘Infinity War’ wasn’t a film about a war that went on for infinity. This is where we are in 2019.

I’d consider the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise a tent pole.

Have you read the news articles about the problems Warner faced with having him in FB2 and now with FB3? Plus Disney dropped him from the Pirates movies to do a reboot. No one is going to build a franchise around him at this point.

This doesn't sound like it's based on the novel by Ralph Ellison.

And it had an amazing ending set-up for the sequel.
The ending was very clever with him meeting Mina. I wonder if the plan was to use the characters from the original novel (Jonathan Harker, Mina, Lucy, Van Helsing) and tell the story in the present day as opposed to the late 19th century.

Looks boring
Reminds me of White Lies Beneath, which was also boring.

Does not follow the book, but still looks like a pretty good flick.
