I haven't seen this since I was a kid, but I remember wanting to watch every time it came on TV and having some kind of book that went w/ the movie. Of course, I had no idea who Hoyt Axton was back then. Knowing what a great storyteller/bullshiter he was adds some appreciation to his scene early in the movie.

I bought it on amazon a few weeks ago but haven’t watched yet. Remember loving it as a kid. It been over 30 years since I’ve seen it.

It holds up well. The snake on the beach doesn't scare me as much as it did when I was 4 or 5, but it's still a cool scene.

Amazing to see a little kid doing things that most adult actors use stunt doubles for. Apparently the kid grew up on a ranch and had been on horses since he could walk.
