They tried to go back to the well with RTD, and it didn't work to bring in new fans. Most importantly, they tried to bring in money with Disney without considering how disney would keep them on a restrictive leash without making the show any kind of marketing priority.
After a bad run and then a disappointing run, letting the show reset and shopping new creatives is probably the right idea.

I stopped watching during Jodie Whitaker's run. And to be clear it had nothing to do with making the doctor a woman. They already proved with the master becoming missy that making the character female could work if the writing was good enough. I stopped watching because the writing was godawful. The timeless chld was one of the dumbest retcon's to the series history and I absolutely hated it.
