The Oscars generally nominate two or three films in this category every year. Here are the 10 finalists for that nomination:

Ant-Man and the Wasp
Avengers: Infinity War
Black Panther
Christopher Robin
First Man
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Mary Poppins Returns
Ready Player One
Solo: A Star Wars Story

Black Panther?

It ruins the movie. It's one of the worse in the last 5yrs.

It actually won't surprise me if Black Panther is nominated. In fact, I am going to go out on a limb and say the three nominees will be:

Black Panther
Mary Poppins Returns
Ready Player One

And I think Mary Poppins Returns wins it.

The CGI is terrible. Efffects are terrible for an otherwise great studio. It's like they half-assed everything.

You guys need to prepare yourselves. Black Panther, for better or for worse, is going to receive a shite ton of nominations at the Oscars this year. I'm predicting at least 10 nominations.

Infinity War and Ready Player One both easily had the best visuals

Listen I get that.

But my main thing is how can you nominate and award something which is so obviously bad.

It's not a subjective thing here, it's objective. The film looks terrible and pays for it in many cases. The film is good, the effects are not.

Edt: let's say decent to good. It does get boring towards the end.

I didn't really have a problem with the effects. But then again, I only saw the film once and I really can't remember them. I do know that I remember being impressed with Infinity War's effects as well as First Man's effects. I'd like to see them get nominated over Black Panther but I just don't see it happening.

I hate the MCU. Truly think they are all a snooze fests but you are 100% correct.

Infinity was impressive, esp Thanos.

Ready Player One had some odd moments but also impressive that they put that movie together within 10months.

The studio which did the effects (or lead the team of studios) is great. One of the best in business.

The fight scenes looked like that terrible Blade CGI back in the day.

They seemed to be rushed and under some other pressure on outside projects.

We really need a sticky thread for crying about Black Panther getting or maybe getting nominated for awards. It will approach Last Jedi melt levels.

No one is crying.

Just pointing out the agenda pushing. There is no way you can watch Black Panther and think it should be a finalist for nomination for effects.

For other awards, yes. This was a week year. But not effects.

I hope it wins Best Picture so the Oscars are definitively irrelevant. No one who has said anything funny is eligible to be Host anymore, so just bring it all home on how Hollywood is entirely disconnected from reality.

But 90% of the replies are about Black Panther and it'll be similar in the Makeup & Hairstyle Oscar thread.

This place is gonna be a shitstorm after the nominations and the awards show, even though most on here claim they don’t give a shite about the Oscars
