A fact that many people didn't know was that they wanted the T-1000 in the first movie and the T-800 as the protector.
But the lack of technology in the 80s prevented that from happening.
Also the T-1000 was not mass produced due to Skynet being afraid that it would turn against them. It had no CPU and so it was told it's mission. Because Skynet was just minutes away from being turned off, it sent it back in time as an act of desperation.
T2 has a deleted scene where the CPU was removed so that it could be switched from read-only mode to read-write mode.
This allowed the T-800 to learn and become more human unlike the T-800 in the first movie.

Despite my youth at the time (I was four years old that summer), I remember seeing the marketing for the film. I also remember getting some of the toys that were released in stores alongside the movie.

Saw it Friday and AMC had it playing in one of the smaller theaters. We went again tonight and it was in the biggest auditorium they have other than the Dolby.
What an experience, I've only been able to watch it on VHS when I was really young through 4K up until this weekend.
