I would have rather have seen more of the big off-screen moments that they just glossed over. Who wouldn't want to see Ted tell Rebecca and the team that he is not returning? Who wouldn't want to see Nate's transformation and telling Rupert he is done, and Rupert's reaction. It's baffling that the writers thought that these things didn't need any screen time.
That's just not the way this show did it. For pretty much all the big moments, they show the fallout and not the event. I think it's been pretty effective that way.

Having him do a walk of shame while being called a wanker was perfect for him. Maybe it hits different, being a woman. But any compassion or redemption for Rupert would have absolutely ruined the whole show for me. He had to get his due for being such an a-hole.
Honestly, I think they had already sufficiently villainized him. The rushing the field, pushing the coach - walking off to wanker chants - I don't think was necessary or really belivable.

The whole reason for the wanker chant was a throwback to the wanker chants for Ted in season 1. It's that now Ted is the hero and Rupert the wanker. I'm sure they wouldn't have had the wanker scene if it hadn't been in season 1.
I honestly think there was nothing low enough for Rupert. Also, the comments about making him cartoonish...I think this whole show is sort of cartoonish. All the characters are extremes. I think it fits.

Oh, I get that. It was pretty obvious.

Touche' - I thought the villainization was thorough enough and those few minutes could have been better served, but that's the beauty of it we can all analyze according to our tastes.

I do think they went too far with Rupert. He was interesting as the a-hole ex for Rebecca, and even had a humanizing moment this season at the dinner to create the new soccer league. Then the show turned him into Darth Vader, yet somehow more evil. I've always felt the show was about good things happening to good people, not bad people getting their comeuppance. Rupert's final humiliation seemed petty and unnnecessary. Rebecca had "won" in all the important ways, regardless of the game's outcome. I would've preferred to see Rupert shrug his shoulders and reluctantly raise a drink to Rebecca from the owner's box - we already know what he's lost and it would've been more consistent with the Ted Lass ethos.

I dont get all the Rupert defense.
he’s been a nonstop dickhead all show and people are upset he was a dickhead?
before we meet him he was cheating on Rebecca.
the first time we meet him she shows up at the fundraiser to try and high road her.
he gets married has a kid (which he told her he never wanted) and flaunts it in her face.
He is cheating on that new wife/mother of his child.
he buys a rival team just to frick with Rebecca.
but pushing his coach is too much?

I can only speak for myself, I was certainly not defending him, just I thought he'd been villainized enough and the finale would certainly have been fine without the ridiculous scene of him storming the scene and pushing the coach down.

They could have cut out the restaurant and gay story arch. It didn't add much to the show as a whole.
Both of these plotlines were pretty major with respect to the team's bonding and truly trusting and believing in one another.

Predictions:
- Ted leaves obviously to be back with his son, Beard stays
- Richmond wins the title due to some combo of Nate and Roy's tactics or some callback to something they did earlier in the series
- Fans sing "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road" by Elton John when he leaves Richmond stadium, or it's used as the outro music, carrying on with the Wizard of Oz themes in the show
- Roy and Nate named co-managers of AFC Richmond
- Rupert gets ousted/cancelled due his allegations of harassment
- The Dutch guy Rebecca met in Amsterdam shows up, probably setting up the love triangle with him and Sam in the spinoff series or whatever
- Ted leaves obviously to be back with his son, Beard stays - CHECK
- Richmond wins the title due to some combo of Nate and Roy's tactics or some callback to something they did earlier in the series - PARTIAL CREDIT, THEY WON THE MATCH DUE TO WHAT YOU ARE SAYING
- Fans sing "Goodbye Yellowbrick Road" by Elton John when he leaves Richmond stadium, or it's used as the outro music, carrying on with the Wizard of Oz themes in the show - NOPE, BUT THE SOUND OF MUSIC BIT AND THE TEAM/FANS GOING NUTS WAS CLOSE ENOUGH
- Roy and Nate named co-managers of AFC Richmond - PARTIAL CREDIT
- Rupert gets ousted/cancelled due his allegations of harassment - CHECK
- The Dutch guy Rebecca met in Amsterdam shows up, probably setting up the love triangle with him and Sam in the spinoff series or whatever - CHECK
Pretty damn good predictions.

Glad that I stuck with this show even though there were some really awful episodes but the finale is great.
