Having never seen a Trek movie prior to the last one, I loved it. I am that much more excited to see JJ's work on Star Wars. KHAAAAAN! BTW, I hate that every movie these days resort to the fake out death (Kirk, Pepper Potts, etc.) We know they aren't going to kill them.

Might want to take the huge spoilers out of your post.

It has been out close to a month. If someone is that paranoid about Iron Man spoilers, they should have ssen it by now.

I thought this movie was great. I was thoroughly entertained and excited throughout the entire movie.
I guess cliches and predictable outcomes are just something we as movie audiences will have to learn to live with. And that is definitely something new to theaters. There have never been cliched, formulaic and predictable movies, ever.
My only complaint is Bones. I don't remember him being such a one dimensional character in TOS or in TOS movies. Karl Urban is awesome at everything he does and I'm a little disappointed with his character right now.

I'm a huge TOS fan, and I didn't like the 09 movie very much.
I thought this one was great, though. It had its flaws, as has been discussed, but overall, I really enjoyed it.
The Enterprise under water (was probably a shuttle craft originally until someone decided to amp it up) and Spock's Khaaaaaaan were a bit silly and I wish weren't in the movie, but those are minor complaints.
The Trek nerd in me could nitpick other things, like Kirk talking to Scotty from outside Federation space in real-time ( ) on a handheld communicator ( ), but I can overlook that.
Overall, it was a fun movie that better captured the spirit of Star Trek than the 09 movie, and I look forward to the next one.
My thoughts exactly.

That's the inherent flaw of reboots. Star Trek as a franchise has had many different bridge crews featured. Perhaps simply setting the films after the others with original characters would have been the better way to relaunch the series.
This too. I'm sure Spock and Kirk sell better than a new crew though.

Thanks for giving people a whole month.
I think the policy is no spoilers at any time. Take the "favorite movie ending" threads. Even though The Usual Suspects was released a decade and a half ago, some people still haven't seen it.

Finally saw this. Not sure how anyone could not enjoy this movie.

Jebarkus has shown me the light and will allow me to revise my policies.
I'm going to bomb the non reader GoT thread with what's coming on Sunday.
They had years to find out the plot if they wanted to, so it's okay.

I just got off of a month long ban for "admitting intent to provide spoilers." Good luck.

ao much wrong with this statement.
The Battle of Wolf 359 is a fictional space battle in the Star Trek universe between the United Federation of Planets and the Borg Collective in the year 2367. The aftermath is depicted in the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Best of Both Worlds, Part II" and the battle in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine pilot, "Emissary." The battle occurs at the star Wolf 359, a real star system located 7.78 light years from Sol, and constitutes a total loss for the Federation, after the single attacking Borg ship obliterates the opposing fleet and proceeds to Earth without significant damage.
wolf 359 The star third-closest to Sol and Earth, at about 2.35 parsecs or 7.6 light-years, where some 40 Starfleet ships in Admiral Hanson's armada were routed by the Borg circa stardate 44000

The "argument" was over what iteration of ST is closest in terms of tone, setting, story, etc. to TOS and the TOS movies. IMHO, Enterprise is closer to the tone and "feel" of TOS than TNG, DS9 and Voyager (the latter two being "offshoots" of the TNG universe, not TOS). To that end, and to restate my previous position, I think the Abrams versions of ST are far closer to TOS than the later versions.

Second viewing - Caught the 2:15 pm showing at AMC in BR (regular, not 3D or IMAX - have already seen it in IMAX).
Pleasantly surprised at size of the crowd. Movie was just as good (damned good).
As was stated before, I am hard pressed to understand how someone could not have enjoyed that movie.

As someone else mentioned...
1) Never any consequences to Kirk's actions leaves little suspense and one wonders why anyone should follow rules/procedure/safety protocol. Space is just fun, right? And with time travel...everything is just a do-over.
2) Kahn needed a backstory.
3) Video-gamish fanboy nonsense...everything is too easy...so why not fill action sequences with silly banter.
Overall...the franchise has become increasingly childish as HW now caters to 13-year olds.
Patience and a brain...traits for following the originals...I guess are extinct in the next generation.

Saw it this weekend, thought it was pretty good.
My biggest gripe was with the scene when Khan explains who he really is. Why not show some scenes of him being woken up and interacting with Marcus while he is talking, instead of 5 minutes of Benedict walking around the brig?
