I have been seeing all these commercials for it, and simply do not understand.

So people meet online & fall in love. They do all of this without ever physically meeting each other. They carry on these relationships for years.....even a decade plus. Then they hire some complete stranger to make them finally meet each other?? It culminates with somebody finding out their "loved one" is actually a fake??

Ok, so no doubt everything about this show/documentary has to be fake, but do people actually do this IRL?? How can one carry on a relationship with a fake person for years.....much less months? Makes no sense to me......"Inconceivable"!!

The movie, while likely fake, makes a lot more sense than what you're implying.

Go watch it.

How is it possible to talk to a "fake" person for months/years this day & age?? You'd have to be the most gullible idiot ever to fall for some fake crazy person.....

it's easy

way back when on ftj there was actually a faker who got her hot roommate to get on cam for her and shite and she'd just tell the roommate what to say. the faker was disabled...i think paralyzed in a wheel chair

Are you sure you got all this from just watching the trailers?

It's based on the movie from a couple years ago. The movie was actually pretty good.

I've seen part of it, but thought it was terrible simply because it was all fake. But maybe that's why it's good, because it was an original idea.

Even though the movie & show are both fake, I still don't understand how a competent adult could possibly be fooled for years on end.

It wasn't years.

It was like 2-6 months.

I was talking about the tv show where people had been in online relationships for years. They're still both completely fake/scripted, so that doesn't really matter

I'm so confused.

There's a TV show based on the movie?

With all these questions I feel like you should go to the OT and ask what backchanneling means.

Just send pictures of some random person. Its not hard. There are plenty of fake facebook pages out there. Young people, especially ugly or lonely ones, are quite gullible.

And even though it's likely just a fake doc, it's a pretty good movie. Just watch it.
