And this is why SNL largely sucks now. They've always mocked politics, but before it was done out of actual humor.

There is a concrete, purposeful agenda now. They are not mocking politics, they are politics. They're part of the machine they are supposed to lampoon.

Season premier, and the first bit after the cold open was a ”omg funny names” bit, featuring zingers like “Mike litt” and “Irma Gurd”

Should be said of 95% of all snl monologues. Only weird when true of a host who's also a professional and famous stand-up, like tonight.

So, so boring. We're you alive before the trump administration, or were you just not paying attention to anything until trump's Twitter account became your brain? They spent 8 years making fun of Obama. If you think the mocking was gentle, fine that's your opinion, but it was mocking. The "what would it take for you to not vote for Obama" sketches were explicitly acknowledging the administration's ineffectual existence.

Nothing has changed, except your political alliances and the cast members hosting the weekend update.
