1. (a) Close a loose end that could have possibly helped his very useful tool Andy gain his freedom and lose his services, and (b) Which could have led to Andy revealing his knowledge of the warden’s scheme.

2. Power play to intimidate Andy into doing his bidding without question and forget any thoughts of freedom.

Or been the character that revealed Andy's innocence. Or been the motivating factor behind his final decision to escape.

Leading role in Cool World vs bit part in Shawshank...yea...Pitt would trade it.
