I'll be the first to admit that I absolutely love the 1995 version with Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman but I'm a fan of new adaptations that bring new fans to the Jane Austen fold.

Looking forward to seeing this one. I really like Daisy Edgar-Jones as an actress as well (and there's a solid cast here).

It's very good. I like the 2008 mini series a little better just because you get more of the story. It's really hard to beat a Jane Austen BBC mini series. Colin Furth and Jennifer Ehle Pride and Prejudice being the goat obviously.

It wouldn't be a proper decade of movies without a Jane Austen remake.

I don't think they could do better than the one with Emma Thompson. The cast alone makes it untouchable.

Right. I don't anticipate it topping that given that cast and directing (Ang Lee). It was one of the really great adaptations (even if not page to page).

But I do think this one could be good and good for a rewatch.

I liken it to Little Women. The 1994 adaptation with Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Claire Danes, Kirsten Dunst) is the all-time favorite for me. I don't think anything will top it. But I did really enjoy the 2019 adaptation and it was well acted/cast and enjoyed some of the additions to the story itself that set it apart from the 1994 one.

No diversity!!! COUNT ME IN!

ETA If you were a fan of the 1995 version and also a fan of Downton Abbey, here's a little trivia for you.

Kate Winslet and Alan Rickman were in talks to guest star together on an episode of this show as a married couple. Kate Winslet could not do it at the time because she was expecting a baby. Alan Rickman was interested, but decided against it because Kate Winslet couldn't appear with him.
