Who do you think they were bombing in TG: Maverick?
Coming in off the Persian Gulf. Hilly/mountainous terrain. Rogue state about to go online with (underground) nuclear bomb-making facility. Chinese Gen 5 fighters (ehh, maybe), but significantly- old F-14 Tomcats on the ground.
That describes Iran to a T, particularly with the Tomcats. They're the only nation that still has them.

Though I like the idea. I think it would take away from the other two films. Top Gun: Maverick is ok, but I can't stress how good the first Top Gun is. If they could make the third one using AI to show what Maverick was up two after the between the first two movies. That would be fcking EPIC. Have Maverick running sorties during The First Gulf War.
