I've got the same decision to make.I'm not a gamer so I don't have a PS3 or XBOX360.I want to be able to stream Netflix or Hula.Plus.

My main question is,do yo get free channels with the Roku or do you have to subscribe for all the programming? TIA

Cable TV and cable internet is really the only choice for our family. We can watch anything and everything on TV and have blazing fast internet access for 136.76 (latest Cox bill). The only option I can foresee is if we get fiber access in our area. Slow DSL, shitty satellite TV and the limitations of Netflix, etc. is not an option for us. For us it's definitely a case of you get what you pay for. Cell phone access on the other hand is a real rip-off if you have smartphones.

More questions:
1: how would I watch LSU games on Saturdays
2: how would I watch saints games on Sundays (or whatever night they play)
3: how would I watch PTI
4: how would I get internet access? Guy at beat buy was saying I could just use hot spot from my phone?

I just ordered roku 3 and HD antenna. Keeping cox Internet. I only have 1 tv, and only watch PBS and Comedy Central for the most part. Both of which can be streamed live from a laptop.
For the LSU games not available via the antenna, I'll hit up a bar. It's just a few weeks a year.

I did this last year. Good luck. At some point you just go "I'm almost 30 and pirating cable and watching sports off a laptop. WTF is wrong with me."

I'm on my phone and won't have computer access until tomorrow. But I'll give my thoughts and answers to some Roku questions.

I have had it since January with no cable and haven't missed a beat.

Roku 1:

-dozens of free, crazy arse channels (international, kung fu, indy/cult film)

-free, commercial-supported movie/tv channels (Crackle, Popcornflicks)

-premium channels (UFC, fitness channels, games, etc.)

-MOG (subscription music service), Pandora

-movie sales/rentals through Amazon Instant

Roku 3:

-Spotify

Biggest things missed since canceling cable:

-ESPN

-some network (PBS, Fox)... my antenna won't get them for some reason

-Spike (for UFC), AMC, A&E, TLC

Been cable free for 2.5 years now.

Dunno. Maybe some electrical experts can chime in as to whether you can split the antenna.
