Ready to watch Rock take back his title!

And now I am about to ask the most controversial question on the Movie Board this week. Would Rocky have beaten Clubber in the first match if Micky had stayed healthy?

Before everybody flips their shite, keep in mind that Micky (who knew Rocky better than anybody and had extensively scouted Clubber) felt that Rocky was ready to fight and Rocky got himself into trouble because he gassed himself out too early because he wanted to get back to Micky.

Micky wouldn't have let Rocky stroll out there if he was going to get turned into ground meat so was Micky just way off, was Rocky actually ready but wasn't thinking straight or did Micky think Rocky was going to lose but was just hopeful that he was trained enough to lose with honor and not get blasted and need hospitalization?

Rock would’ve beaten his arse if Mickey didn’t die, but that wouldn’t have made for a good movie.

In reality, Stallone in Rocky 3 was probably what? 5'10" 185lbs max?

Mr T looked every bit 40-50 lbs heavier, probably a legit 6'1" 230.

I just looked up and the internet says Mr T was only about 5'10"1/2.

If that's true, Stallone was much much smaller than I thought. Lang looks 2" taller than him.

That’s about right. Stallone is small. They have him listed at 5’10” but I think he’s closer to 5’8”.

Was he in better shape in Rocky III or IV? I think it’s easily Rocky IV. I wonder what type of shite he was taking. Dude was yoked in Russia.

Boxers today are so coddled.

This 1982 ref was really letting some shite go. I wonder how many boxers died in the ring under his watch.

So great. Every time I’m channel surfing and catch a Balboa fight is a real joy. I sit there and watch it like I’ve never seen it before, and I’ve seen them all a ton of times.

Nah Rocky had to change his style of training and fighting in order to beat Clubber.

Had Micky not died, Rocky would have probably been a bit more patient in the fight and and lasted another round or 2, but he didn't nearly have the conditioning or agility to beat Clubber.

Remember Rocky was training in that celebrity style and Micky was pissed off at Rocky, even telling him he needed to get back to the old style and gym.

Rocky was going to lose the first fight no matter what happened. Micky didn’t want Rocky to fight originally because he knew this. Micky saw what was coming and tried to train him hard. But Mick also knew he was having bad heart problems (which he kept to himself) so he wanted to support Rocky the best he could.

Stallone is short, like Tom Cruise short, probably 5'6"ish (now) and at his peak, probably in the mid 1970s was 5'8" - at most. But, he has the frame of a 6-footer, with stubby arms and legs (like a certain awesome poster).

And, somewhat famously, he dropped down to around 158 to 160 for the filming of Victory (whose stars were all playing WWII POWs being held by the Germans). He shredded even further to about 155 for Rocky 3. This was to emphasize the "David vs. Goliath" theme of the movie.

I've seen T's height fairly reliably listed at about 5'10", give or take half an inch.

George Peppard was ~6' -

So, I would say T was no more than 6'.

I've seen T's weight listed as low as 189 pounds for Rocky 3 - if I had to guess, assuming he is 5'10", 5'11", closer to 200, 205.

In hindsight, it's kind of funny how they demonized Drago and the Soviet machine for doping and all the while, Sly was quietly getting into the HGH game (at the very least, and probably anabolic cycles for some time, too).

I don't want to take anything away from him - he turned 38 during production (opposite a prime, 27-year old Lundgren) and, even with chemical assistance, that was A LOT of work to get into that kind of shape. They only had limited options to cheat in the camera/post-production back then.

Man's got to make a living, right?
