Those were the only two movies I saw this year. In fact, those were the first two movies I've seen in the theater since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.
It took that many psych sessions to want to enter a theater after Crystal Skull? that messed you up more than me

I'm surprised Jurassic World is getting so much love. I thought it was full of plot holes and pretty much a horrendous turd of a movie
My cousin's 9 year old said it was the best of all of them
I agree with you. I didn't think it was that good. Very cheesy IMO.

It was highly underwhelming for being the continuation of a beloved franchise. It actually has quite a few elements I'd expect in a B movie:
- terrible acting
- awful one liners
- a cheesy villain (and I use that term loosely) who you know from the beginning is going to get his before it's over
- ridiculous over the top plot devices including a dinosaur with almost supernatural powers, a villain that wants to train dinosaurs for war, the hero riding a motorcycle through a jungle while leading raptors with go-pros strapped to their heads into battle, a gal that spends almost the entire movie in high heels even while running through the jungle, kids being able to put a 20 year old jeep into working condition (with tires are not dry rotted and a full tank of fresh gas) without any tools, etc

Still have to see: Spotlight, Creed, Carol, The Hateful Eight, Anomalisa, Macbeth, Brooklyn, and The Revenant. I feel confident almost if not all of those would crack my top 10-15 so take this list with a grain of salt.
1. Mad Max: Fury Road
2. Ex Machina
3. What We Do in the Shadows
4. Sicario
5. The Big Short
6. It Follows
7. Phoenix
8. Inside Out
9. While We're Young
10. Tangerine
