Pompeii: Out of Time with Tom Hiddleston

3 episodes on Nat Geo/Hulu. I wasn't aware of Hiddleston's interests in the classics and Pompeii in general. It's an interesting format that recreates the actions of 3 "survivors." If we didn't get the background of him visiting Pompeii 20 years ago, and studying the classics in University, he might come across as over dramatic, but I think he has sincere interest in making a subject he cares about interesting to genpop.
I clearly didn't get the full story of eruptions from Geo101 at LA Tech; I thought the 900 degree pyroclastic flows that killed everyone in their path occurred within seconds or minutes of the eruption. This is incorrect, it took hours for the eruption column to collapse which shot the superheated air and ash into Herculaneum and Pompeii.

Most figured it would stop and it just kept getting worse.
By the time most people realized they were in the middle of a major catastrophe. It was too late to run.

ETA: The "survival" expert made great points about what humans tend to do (it always defaults to inaction.)

It's wild that he can actually read the ancient written language as he's walking around. Pretty neat tbh. Great choice of guide for this.

Identifying who might have lived through inscriptions thousands of years old is nuts.
I did love the "I'm a student of classics," "I'm a teacher of classics," interactions. Boom.
Having pyroclastic flows take so long to actually kill you is horrifying, if you knew about them. Knowing death is coming and is inevitable, no bueno. There's nothing I can do, you don't know what is going on, and you don't know it's 13m, it's "soon."

It is my goto Gilmour music. I listen to the full album at least twice a week. I have the blue ray, album, download, 8 track. LOL.
