Quint: Jesus H Christ, when I was a boy, every little squirt wanted to be a harpooner or a sword fisherman. What d'ya have there - a portable shower or a monkey cage?
Hooper: Anti-Shark cage.
Quint: Anti-shark cage. You go inside the cage?
[Hooper nods]
Quint: Cage goes in the water, you go in the water. Shark's in the water. Our shark.
[sings]
Quint: Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies. Farewell and adieu, you ladies of Spain. For we've received orders for to sail back to Boston. And so nevermore shall we see you again.

On a related note, the restoration work on the bluray release of Jaws is phenomenal. It looks like it could have been filmed yesterday.

I am quite certain I will never be bitten by a shark since I have no plans to seek them out in waters where they swim. I live next to the gulf of mexico and thanks to Jaws I have little need to frolic about in the surf.

Yeah, I still remember him covering my eyes in the theater during the pod-person head bashing scene in Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Dad always knew best. They had to drag me to see Raiders of the Lost Arc. I thought it looked old timey and stupid, and I didn't want to go. I think that, after Star Wars, I was racist against all non sci-fi movies.

I saw this in theaters when it first came out, and yes....everyone was scared shitless.

Part of that was due to the genius of Spielberg.
And part was due to the times. There were no CGI and all that crap like today, where even toddlers know its all fake.

It was actually due to the genius of Hitchcock. Because of the numerous problems with the fake shark in salt water, they had to go to the barrel idea, which Speilberg stated was a Hitchcock technique.

But putting the midget in the mini shark cage was all Speilberg.

I saw Jaws 3 in 3D at the theater when I was younger.

It made me afraid to waste money on 3D movies.

Did it really make you afraid to go into the water?

I lived in Florida at the time. We lived on a canal and also had a pool. I was scared to get into either one of them. I truly thought there were giant sharks out there that could bust into the sewer system, swim close to the house, and then bust into our pool.

I'm thinking 1st grade was much too young to watch that movie. Different times back then.

I was 4, and my dad somehow thought it would be okay to take my brother and I. I am still traumatized, to this day.

My dad did the same thing to me with Poltergeist. He also made me ride into the drive-in in the trunk with his date because he's all class.

I saw some of jaws 2 by accident on hbo when I was a little kid in the early 80s.i was absolutely terrified of even the pool for awhile. Not so much when I was just in it but when I'd close my eyes and swim under my imagination would go crazy.

All this

It's why jaws is my favorite movie to this day.

Then I showed her PSYCHO....

No, but it was the first movie I had to stand in line for.
The same here. We might have been standing in line on the same day at the same theater.

"He can't stay down with three barrels on him, not with three barrels he can't."

That's the line that always comes to mind when I'm throwing resources at something that isn't cooperating, sometimes bitterly muttered under my breath.

The strangest part of the movie was the footage of an actual great white in parts of that scene. It looked nothing like Jaws.

Good thing you didn't see alligator.

Jaws really is under appreciated IMO. People forget it was the highest grossing film in theaters when it came out, it dethroned the Godfather. Also, Speilberg drove everyone crazy making this film which went more than double its original budget and took twice as long. Truly among the greatest films made.

I remember walking up to that old theater by LSU, and it had a sold out sign on it My dad brought me
Few years later when I was 8 in 1979 I saw Alien with my dad in that cold, dark arse theater !

But with Jaws I was scared to swim in a pool. So were all of the kids. Especially at nite

Yes but to a lesser extent than my brother. Saw it in the theater when I was 7 with my brother who just turned 6.
