i watched the 1st one last night and then went and saw the 2nd one...

i realize that the "demon" infected Kristi first because she gave birth to the first male in the family, Hunter. Didn't Kristi and her husband find the picture of Kristi's sister, Katie as a little girl, after they got home and the house had been vandalized? And this was the same picture that Micah found in the attic in Paranormal Activity 1...

I got dragged to that movie tonight and it was so epically terrible it's hard to put into words. I'm more scared of what Miles is gonna say to the media each week than anything in that movie. I want my money back.

I read that it's less subtle than the first and has more loud "GOTCHA!" moments, which may be somewhat effective but it's nothing more than cheap scares, imo. I'll wait for a good online copy to come before I watch it and make a real opinion.

Yeah, the lack of build up just did not create the same suspense as the first one for me. I definitely like the first one more, even though I did not hate this one. It was just as you said, more cheap scares than genuine.

edit: to answer the op, I did not catch that part of the movie. I saw the part where Martin (sp?) the Spanish lady was opposed to the pic, but something doesn't add up. If the thing was after the baby and went for Kristi first, why would Katie's pic be haunted/ effected/ possessed / :insertdescriptiveword:? I realize they both had problems as kids, but if the pic should up, I don't get it.

Anyone else think this movie was more Poltergeist than PA 1? Toy across the floor, kid being moved along the bed and up the side, fuzzy tv in the living room, and probably some others I am missing. I realize the two concepts are similar; so, similarities are to be expected. However, I just feel this one tried to be more of a straight forward horror, while the first was all about build up. The basement scene was straight "Quarantine."

Second, I thought the very end of this one was weak. Katie just shows up and pwns them. Something about it just wasn't right/ did not fit with the movie, imo. I can't put my finger on it, but it just felt all of a sudden and out of place.

but something doesn't add up

here is what i got from the movies...

katie and kristi's great-great-grandmother made a deal with the devil to get rich and powerfull. in return, she had to sacrifice the families first male born baby, which was hunter, from kristi.

i'm not sure why the demon was messing with kristi and katie when they were younger. Obviously, the demon wanted to infect kristi first bc she gave birth to the first male in the family. when her husband pressed the cross against her, it transferred the demon to the next blood relative, which was katie.

i guess the picture represents the passing of the demon from kristi to katie, as it appeared in their attic after kristi's husband pressed the cross against her to pass it on to katie.

why was the picture of katie in kristi and her husbands house in the first place though?

i think it appeared there once they brought hunter home...a sign of which meant the demon was now in their house

Yeah, I got that, and I agree with everything you say here. However, when you said this in the OP:

quote:

And Acre agreed, I did not recall that part. The vandalism is one of the first things to happen. Way before Katie gets possessed. Which is why if that is accurate, even if it is not accurate, I do not understand this:

quote:

When I was watching it, I just thought it was a photo they had in a collection. What I did not understand after watching the movie, was Martins negative reaction to the photo. At first I thought it was because Katie was going to get possessed; however, Kristie is the target in this movie, until they do the cross thing.

Yeah, the burning of the picture was definitely part of the transfer process. How the picture showed up at both houses, I guess is just part of the paranormal. Like I said though, I originally thought it was just part of their collection of photos.

I didn't like the first one. It wasn't actually scary imo. I don't understand how it got a second one.

believe it or not, they probably didn't take your opinion into account

But seriously, I was pretty freaked out when I saw it for the first time, but when i watched it again, wow it did nothing for me at all.

That was good...but when she shafted her sister. That was even better. She just put her hand out, and the sister went flying(dead). Yet the baby didn't die from the toss. Not sure why.

From what I remember:

The "vandalized house" was very early in the movie. After that mom and step-daughter were looking at pictures. It was about 4 days later or so. The picture randomly appeared and mom got freaked out because she knew what was up. Yet a-hole Dad downplayed it.

I just don't understand why it took the demon that long to get the baby if no one was really fighting it. Seems the demon was just playing with them until it got pissed off.

The demon needed Kristi's body to take the baby. The way posession seems to work (in most mediums that take the subject seriously) is the host's defenses have to be worn down. This is basically done through fear tactics starting with strange noises then through dreams and escalating to the moving of objects and actual physical attacks. The body is easiest to posess when all hope and faith are at it's weakest.

That makes sense then. Which would put the blame on the husband for not taking her serious. Nothing happend to him or the daughter(minor things) really. It wasn't until the demon got strong enough.

I just don't understand why they didn't show the dad the home videos more often. I mean the shite about all the cabinets busting open could not be disproved by him.

Kristi told the daughter that they had to ignore it as per Katie and it would go away, just like when they were kids.

That was funny.

As for this movie...scariest movie I've ever seen.
