I just finished the last season on DVD. I didn't watch it at the time it aired but I watched the seasons on DVD. I liked it. The finale was a little different.
Anyone else a fan of the show?

Yeah, somewhat.
Funniest line of Oz was when some of the skinheads had one of the wop boys tied up (son of a big timer who died in first season) who had also already been raped by Adibici...
Schillinger: "Ya know, I always wondered if Adibici had a bigger dick than me...well...you be the judge."

Oz is one of my favorite shows, but they jumped the shark with subplots like the aging drug. I was a little disappointed at how cartoonish some episodes were.
One of the things that I really appreciated about Oz was the variety of characters that you were treated to. Since it came out before the Sopranos, it was one of the first cable shows where you found yourself rooting for a sociopath.
The Adebisi vs Kareem Said showdown in season four was pretty surprising. It's up there with the Big Pussy Sopranos boat scene with "I can't believe that just happened" cable moments.

I know we are supposed to suspend some disbelief, but you would think after....oh I don't know they first 20 murders they might stop letting the criminals walk around alone in dark hallways in the prison. Seems like at some point someone might notice the exceptionally high mortality rate.
I did like the show for the most part, but it did annoy me when guys were always out of their cell killing and raping.

two things annoyed me:
1) absurd storylines
2) the liberal way of running the prison
Seriously, McManus would tell some of the prisoners "if you do this again, you're going to death row, the hole, solitary, etc"....then they'd do something bad....and they'd "work out a deal" to keep them in Em City.
Oh, and someone could confess to a murder, but get away with it if they would rat on the person who "made them do it".
And it's funny how Kirk, Hoyt, Cyril, and Keller went to death row when they didn't do HALF of the crap that some of those others did, yet they got to keep roaming around.

Definite fan here. I have 4 seasons on DVD and DirectTV is now showing them for free.
O'Reilly was the man. Schillinger was ok. Keller was OK too minus the gay part.

Ryan O'Reily was definitely my favorite character on the show. That dude was sneaky.

I grew tired of the gay love between Keller and the lawyer jerkoff (Tobias?)
I also didn't like Sister Pita Marie or the Asian priest.
The 3-4 guys on Death Row were pretty lame.
Kareem was too phony at times.
The female cop that fricked O'Reilly was a poor actress and her character was too extreme.
McManus was a puss and a guy like him would never make it in a real prison. No one would ever use his approach or actually "care" about prisoners.
Other than that, great show.

I love OZ. It was very fricking revolutionary when it first came out in 97, I mean back then, there was nothing as shocking/interesting on TV.
O'Reily was easily my favorite character. He made the whiteys feel like we might have a chance if we ever had to go to prison and not want to join the Aryans or suck cock to stay alive.
Beecher's evolution was very interesting and probably some of the best highlights of the first 2 seasons. Watching him go from bitch to openly gay badass was great.
Always wondered how Adabese kept that fricking hat on his head.
Funny as shite seeing Schillinger doing these comedies or Spiderman movies now. I always giggle knowing how many dudes he fricked in the arse and now he's Juno's dad and Spiderman's boss.
Miguel Alvarez was probably my 2nd favorite character. That dude was so fricked up yet had this innocence about him. Can't explain it, but his character was so bi-polar you couldn't help but root for him. It's like this nice guy trapped inside what the world turned into a monster.
JUMP THE SHARK MOMENTS:
The aging drug definitely.
Robson's oral surgery to make him look black
The whole "lock the Asian refugees up in Oz" shite.
The "Bomb".
Luke fricking Perry.
Just seemed like they went off the deep end when in fact all they had to do was just keep new prisoners coming in and killing each other. That's all anyone wanted to see, we just wanted to see Beecher beat the frick out of a hard arse and then take a shite on his head. Period.

Yeah, that dude was legit.
He originally auditioned to be one of the Bikers(he was a real arse Hells Angel) but because of his heavy accent and Guido good looks, they cast him as the Mob Enforcer.
