TL;DR version: The fashion aspect is a sideshow to a good ole fashioned revenge/heist story, solid 7/10 movie.

Now for the long form review, I’m going to start with the bad and work my way to the good.

The Bad

- Typical Hollywood diversity nonsense. Why is Anita Darling black and Roger middle eastern? Because fricking Hollywood.
- Quite using CGI animals you nutsacks. Animals that exist naturally in our world (like Dalmatians) don’t need to be overly expressive. It’s one thing if you are using completely mythological or fantasy creatures that you can’t possible recreate or if you are doing an entirely CGI movie like TLK or Jungle Book, but sweet Jesus you a CGI Dalmatian looking cartoonish in the same scene as a adorable little chihuahua. Knock that shite off.

The Neutral

- Oh look you can naturally include a gay character without his sexuality being out of place, celebrated, or mattering whatsoever. Gay dudes in fashion, no one gets offended because that’s not ridiculous nor did you make him a hero. You want good representation for Alphabets? That’s what you aim for. The only reason I didn’t put this in the good category is because homeboy was an obvious rip off of Davis Bowie.

The Good

- The plot was simple, concise, and straightforward. No reinventing the wheel, no unnecessary plot lines or detours, no experimentation with crap no one cares about. If you are looking for some epic original screenplay that challenges you on a human level, frick off that’s not what entertainment is for. And before someone mentions plot holes like a nut sack, I have no idea when Cruella sleeps given the schedule she keeps in this movie but does anyone sleep in movies or tv shows?

- The cast was amazing. I’ll try to keep it focused with each of them...

Emma Stone has charm and charisma out in spades. It’s a shame that she is just now really getting acclaim and blockbuster roles because she is immensely more likable than her contemporaries (looking at you Jennifer Lawrence).

Emma Thompson is a great cutthroat bitch.

Mark Strong is such an underrated actor. Few actors can say a lot without opening their mouth and uttering a single sound but he’s one of them. He’s not in that James Spader/Giancarlo Esposito territory, but he’s pert near it.

Paul Walter Hauser is a superstar. Good to see a hefty boy get to show off some range in a movie other than being a slob or dimwitted fat arse. Hope Covid hasn’t dimmed his rising star.

Now the real revelation was the girl who played young Cruella. She showed more range and talent in 20 or so minutes than Millie Bobbie Brown has shown in 3 seasons of Stranger Things. Some kids have some talent that has to be pulled out of them by acting coaches or great directors, but occasionally you just find someone who you know has that sauce and you just strap a rocket on their back and send them to the moon. I would be shocked if Disney doesn’t make her part of their next generation of core stars.

Anyways, if your sweetie asks you to watch it, it’s not the worst thing in the world to spend an afternoon or night doing.

There is something about Emma Stone that I can't stand. IDK what it is but eh.

Well it is based in London right? It is not very white anymore.

Edit: is it worth the $30 on Disney+

In 1965 and then 1975?

ETA: the guy who played Jasper didn’t really sway me in either direction, but not putting Stephen Merchant in that role was a wasted opportunity.

It’s a movie based on a cartoon about a fashion designer who wants to kill 99 puppies.

If diversity casting is a problem for you bc it isn’t realistic enough for you, I’d argue you are the opposite side of the same coin of people who demand that there be diversity casting.

Does Emma Stone get naked? Otherwise I don’t care to watch it.

Just got out of the theater, and I thought it was great. Emma Stone did an amazing job, and her evolution into Cruella was really well done.

I hope it gets a sequel.

Diversity casting just for the sake of checking boxes is not good in anyways. Now if you are changing a character’s race because you’ve found a great actor willing to take a role a la SLJ as Fury or Elba as Heimdall or they add something to it a la Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman or Jason Mamoa as Aquaman.

There was no reason for them to cast the actors that they cast in those roles at all other than to fill out a self imposed diversity quota. I could understand if they at least cast actors that were already in the Disney Family - like the guy who played Aladdin as John - but they literally plucked two random nobodies and tossed them in because reasons.

Anyways, it was annoying and pointless but thankfully didn’t take away from the movie at large like these things usually do.

This is shallow reasoning that can only come from shallow minds.

Forcing diversity just for the sake of diversity is destroying our society. Wake up.

Kirby Howell-Baptiste is not a nobody. At the very least, she got a ton of attention as the first name on that sandman cast graphic. She's had a big spring roles on big shows.

Kayvan Novak is the lead on the funniest show on television.

Same coin different sides. I’d rather ignore both your side & the other side when watching Disney movies.

Dude you are trying to hard here, they are nobodies' by your own description. They're both British and have done a few projects. They are not big names that more than a select few people would know.

Yet in that wall of a review you picked the single sentence that said anything about diversity and jumped on it. Seems you don't want to ignore it at all.

Look at her credits and tell me what is suppose to be significant on there. C list roles on D list shows. Yeah okay.

Not surprised you think some rambling crap you spewed is an intellectual masterpiece.

It doesn't change the fact that nothing you said in your useless comment makes a bit of sense.

How any empty Busch Light cans do you have piled up around the trailer? I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt and assuming you're just too drunk to follow complete sentences right now.

I bet you think that's clever.

Your sentence structure has little to do with its ignorant incoherent content.

The fact that you think this is what is happening and overlooking the fact that two fairly known good actors were in those roles says a lot about you.
