I just don't know how anyone can like this movie when looked at as part of the whole. The entire Anakin Skywalker arc, his fall to the Dark Side, was set in motion because he couldn't stop the ones he loved from dying. His mother on Tatooine, Padme, the fear of death motivated Anakin to gravitate toward the Dark Side and become Darth Vader.
Fast forward to Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker, Rey is able to save Kylo Ren from death by touching him and Kylo Ren is able to bring Rey back to life by touching her. Those two scenes completely blow up Anakin's motivations in the prequel trilogy. Completely blow them up!

Well said.
I can’t understand why they insisted on using the past only to destroy it.

Are you watching the Mandolorian? They’ve made it pretty clear that Vader’s death triggered the birth of the new Yoda via midechlorians. It’s pretty common EU knowledge that each midichlorian birth brings a new force power.
So Vader’s death brought about the force power he always wanted himself.

Baby Yoda is 50 years old in The Mandalorian and the series takes place just a few years after the fall of the Empire.
Also...not everyone watches the shows or reads the EU books, so if they want people to follow that shite, they had better bring it up in the movies.

Lol, this thread is a great example of why everyone hates Star Wars fans. I’m glad most of you hated it, it is fricking glorious.
I mean FFS, in every bit of non-movie canon there are those that can heal using the force. I guess in a documentary like this though, it is just unfathomable that someone who is learning about the force in leaps and bounds could learn to use the force to do that.
And yeah, the First Order is still out there, while the heroes are celebrating victory. You’re right about that. No one should celebrate destroying a 1,000 star destroyer fleet of ships that can each destroy planets. Meh, just go back to work you idiots, you didn’t do anything. Except.... who was manning those ships? Oh yeah, the First Order... okay celebrate away.
I went in with TLJ still weighing heavily on my former fandom, which I completely lost. The main hangup I had was that Rey needed to either be a Palpatine or willed from the force for the whole her vs trained Kylo battles to make any sense, and that and everything else I had questions about were wrapped up. I exited feeling like a lot of TLJ’s issues were resolved, with my only remaining issue was that the scroller at the beginning said Episode 9 instead of 8 like it should have.

The fact that this movie had to “fix” TLJ doesn’t make it a good movie.
It 100% ruined the previous is lore.
I hope everyone enjoys Rey. They gave her all the god damn force powers with no training.
Not much left for her to do now.
Palp has life time(s) worth of force knowledge and I guess his sperm had malware in it or some shite and that is the only logical conclusion for her ridiculous OPness.

I just got home from watching RoS and I have to say I agree with everything you said. All I can say is this move blew me away and I freaking loved every moment of it. If someone claims to be a Star Wars fan and hates this movie, then I pity them as being so miserable they’ve become incapable of experience joy in anything.

There is healing and then there is bringing someone back from the dead. The whole driving force behind Anakin's descent into Darth Vader was to learn that power. Where did Kylo Ren learn that power from?
If you can't see how that entire sub-plot blew up Anakin's arc in the prequels then you are just living in complete denial.
And if The Rise of Skywalker's biggest draw is that it gave the bird to The Last Jedi, I have absolutely no interest in watching it.

Even Force Resurrection?
Oh, did the coroner come out and pronounce her dead at the scene, or are we making assumptions? I think she was teetering.

I think they probably didnt use Hayden as Anaken because he is much younger than Luke and closer in age to Kylo. Visually putting him in there is confusing. Luke and Han look 100 but Vader looks 40. Just doesnt work as much as we would like to have him in there.
I wonder how much they thought about bringing Vader back. I mean it could make as much sense as Sidious. They coulda done a Venom type thing were the Vader suit found a new host or something equally dumb. Would have been about as equally shameless as bringing back Palpatine.
I enjoyed the movie. It was about 30 minutes too long. I would go see it again in theatre if it was not so long. I will enjoy seeing the next set of movies when they come out. There will definately be more movies.

Meh. I still watch all the Star Wars content I can. I enjoy movies and disagree with the writing at the same time.

Her eyes were open, her pupils were fixed, and she was non-responsive. Generally in movies...that means you are dead.
You can think what you want, but it's obvious JJ Abrams wanted us to think that she was dead.

I think that everyone is overlooking how spectacular Keri Russell's arse was.

Exactly my beef. The idea of bringing balance to the force was the destruction of the Sith according to the original saga, not the dualistic idea of balance. This series went with the dualistic idea just by the fact the dark side wielders came back. Then they explicitly bring it up in TLJ and then they go back to the original idea in this one, but in doing it they remove the necessity of 6 movies.
It isn’t even in continuity with the previous two films let alone the whole.

He learned healing from her, when she healed him, was that not obvious to everyone else? Maybe you guys missed the part where Rey heals the snake, and specifically fricking says, “I used/ or transferred(only saw it once, don’t recall) part of my force to it.”
That said, I think Kylo did exactly what Rey did, he transferred his force to her, it’s literally no different, except he either F’ed up or it just took so much to do it killed him.
Or you can just sit there assuming you know the force and how all this shite works.... whatevs.

Really? Is it that simple? Holy shite! Why didn't Anakin think of that in Episode II or Episode III? There goes the OT right there if he simply transferred shite to other shite through the Force.
Do you know what most people call that? Pulling shite out of your arse for the sake of plot. AKA...a contrivance.

Rey and Ben’s connection is what allowed them to heal... that’s why the technique was lost for so long, as explained by Palpatine

Ahh, the mysterious connection.
Kylo force connects with Rey in the same location Luke is hiding but Luke stays hidden from the universe.
I suspect the next logical step are portals to teleport through!
