I recently watched AD for the first time on IFC. Very cleverly written. I think I'm hooked.

The Ron Howard narration threw me off a bit at first (I can't remember the last sitcom I watched that incorporated a narrator), but I got used to it pretty quickly, and now think it's a great comedic addition.

I just think people who think there's not enough Bluth interaction don't get it.

Oh good lord. Most people here understand scheduling difficulties. The observation that the show is missing an element of the original series has nothing to do with "getting it."

Well then you're already further along than about at least half of the people that try to watch the show. Everyone will recommend that you start from the very beginning if you can and watch in order if possible, that's the best way to watch the show and appreciate the writing.

I love seinfield but from a writing standpoint AD blows it out the water

Half of Seinfeld dialogue is repeating a question 3-4 times

We're talking about writing, correct?

Then absolutely. Water = Blown

I think AD's writing is the best, but Seinfeld is still really good writing. Larry David is an amazing comedic writer. I think Curb is better than Seinfeld, but not as good as AD. Not a big gap though.

Im talking strictly writing.

Part of what made Seinfeld great was its simplicity, so im not taking a shot at it, but writing an episode of AD would be a billion times harder than writing a stand alone Seinfeld episode just because of the running jokes and small things that are so detailed

I think you may have just stated one of the major reasons why Seinfeld was so much more popular (in terms of ratings) than Arrested Development.

It seems like a lot of people like to watch TV in a very relaxed way (meaning mentally relaxed), or while they're doing something else. For these people, it's almost like you have to shove the joke in their face sometimes to get them to laugh.

In general, I don't think these types of TV watchers would like Arrested Development that much because much of the humor is nuanced.

AD also moves pretty quick, so combine the pace with the nuance, and you have a show that is not accommodating to the non-focused or multitasking viewer.

Not trying to knock Seinfeld here. I thought it was a good show, although I thought Curb Your Enthusiasm was much better.

Id agree with all that. AD would have a tough time on regular TV having a growing audience because the episodes build on each other like that. Which is why it got squashed in the first place

Lets say word of mouth got around the middle of the first season about ADs awesomeness, well anybody that wants to watch it is jumping in the middle of a season and has no clue why half the jokes are funny.

Thats why its pretty much taylor made for netflix
