Season 2 of the Night Court reboot has been out for a few weeks. There have been three episodes so far.

didn’t see a thread on here.

Just some highlights/observations

The 1st episode was a Christmas episode,
and because of the writers strike out of sequence. It has Kareem Abdul Jabbar as a guest star. It was mellowed-classic Dan.

The 2nd episode was the actual season 2
Premiere which dealt with the season 1 “cliffhanger” and included the return of Roz. She’s obviously not as sharpe as she was in her younger days, but it still brought back some nostalgia. Wish they could have gotten Bull on.

3rd episode I thought was one of the best so far at rekindling the spirit of the old show. Budget cuts are causing havoc until Dan comes to the rescue. There’s a scheme going on and other hijinks. And thought the dialog and jokes were on point.

They’ve gotten rid of the annoying clerk who had a crush on Abby (yea!) and replaced him with a guy who sorta looks like Mac (yea!) but who has too many eccentricities and is a bit over the top (boo!)

Dan is still 100 percent the highlight of the show. Gurgs is actually rounding into her character a little bit better, but I’m not sure they know what to do with Olivia the female DA. Abby, I think works well when you think of her in terms of being Harry’s daughter.

I think the biggest thing the show is suffering from is the lack of a straight-man character for all the others to play off, or at least the need to tone down the eccentricity of all the characters. Overall though, it’s well worth 30 minutes of viewing time.

Is he still the neutered version of the OG Dan?

I wouldn’t use the word neutered. He’s matured, had found then lost the love of his life. Would honestly be a little lame for him to be purely the Dan of old.

I was curious and checked. John Laroquette is now 76 years old. It makes sense that he's slowed down. Even if he's got a bit of an old man Edwin Edwards player still going on.

FWIW Marsha Warfield was once a hottie. But you have to go back to a Richard Pryor roast from the 70s to see the evidence.

I haven't seen the new show. I have a lot of affection for the old one. And for the sake of nostalgia I hope the retired John Astin (who is 93 and played Harry's father) is well enough to do a guest spot.

I just watched episode 6 of the new season, and I have to say it’s the best of the new series in my estimation.

It really had the feel of an old episode of the series. It’s set during Comicon time and uses that as an excuse for John Larroquette to revisit an earlier movie role (I won’t spoil it, but it’s hilarious!). Also brings back the Wendy Mallick character as the woman obsessed with getting revenge on Dan. Has another subplot with Abby and an old friend who she now finds annoying that isn’t bad either.

Night Court has always been about the zany and over-the-top set against the backdrop of the mundane, and I thought this episode really caught that.

I’ll also mention that it seems “Gurgs” the Baliff is settling into her role, the new clerk is much better than the old, and they found a way (at least in this episode) to make the prosecutor annoying in a funny way.

Episode 7 is out with special guest star Kunal Nayyar. I said last week’s episode was the best of the new series and stand by it, but this one is not far behind.

It’s fashion week at Night Court, which brings some wild and wacky characters in to play. It really capture the offbeat, madcap comedy of the old show. Some
of the jokes are silly, but it’s well timed silliness.

Dan defends a fashion designer who shows him a trick to ward people away. Abby has a brief but humorous romance with Raj, who himself is playing a fashion designer.

The new clerk fits in much better than the old one. He’s funny, but not over the top. in the episode he orders a headset and uses it to wrangle people even though it’s not plugged it. I could see Mac pulling such a trick. They are also refining the prosecutor chick a little and using Gurgs in smaller but more effective ways.

If you’re not watching this, suggest catching up. Especially the last two episodes.

This weeks episode saw the return of Brent Spiner as Bob Wheeler. Dan was of course the only one around who knew them, but apparently their legend was known by Abby Stone. It wasn’t the best episode of the season, but was a solid offering.

Doesn’t seem to be much interest in this show on the board which is sad. I think it’s really started to hit its stride and become worthy of the original. Obviously it’s still got a ways to go to reach that level of greatness.

Reckon I’m just talking to myself on this one, but I’ll keep doing so hoping that others will catch on and this show will hang around.

Watched episode 13 today. Roz is back for her wedding. The guests include Christine Sullivans sister, and we get a little backstory and what happened to her and Dan post the original episode. There was also a surprise twist at the end which I won’t ruin … it may be a fake out but could also wind up being interesting.

I’ve been doing a rewatch of the original Season 4 recently. I’ll say it again that while the new iteration certainly isn’t up to the level of the original run, it definitely holds up. Dan is still the star of the show, and his progression seems like a logical continuation of what happened over the course of the original show.

I appreciate the nods to the original in the current series. They’re doing it the way a reboot show should, IMO. Brent Spiner returned as Bob Wheeler a few weeks back. They’ve had some other solid guest stars.

The new clerk really fits in well with the vibe of the show, and is way better than the guy who had a crush on the judge. I think Olivia has really broken out in a more limited role, and they’re making much better use of Gurgs. Flobert is over the top, but in a good way.

So, if you’re not watching, I’d suggest giving it a shot.
