The streaming giant has ordered 16 more episodes of Sabrina, which will release in two parts (officially called Parts 3 and 4). Production on the new installments will kick off in 2019....As previously reported, the nine-episode Part 2 will drop on Friday, April 5.

What's interesting about this is the format of the "seasons". They originally got the show by committing to 2 seasons up front but have chosen to show both seasons in the same year AND they have this Christmas episode in the middle. I suspect "seasons" 3 and 4 will be released on a similar Fall/Spring schedule.

One of Netflix's biggest problems has been it's hard to keep mindshare for shows that are only on people's minds for 1 week a year. I hope to see Netflix try to do more shows like this. Can they do 20+ episodes a year without having a bunch of filler episodes though? One of the benefits of these shorter seasons has been less filler.

Would be groundbreaking. Before you know it, they will be putting out only 1 episode every week to keep people talking about it.

Gonna totally change the game.

You joke but we've had threads here where the idea of changing the binge format is discussed and a lot of people get angry and start saying they'd quit Netflix if that happened. I'm really surprised at how many people are addicted to the binge format.

I'm fine with watching Star Trek: Discovery and Titans on a weekly schedule. It gives me TV to look forward to.

I’d kill to have this back. I despise binging.

You realize that just because its there, doesn't mean you have to watch it, right? It takes me weeks, sometimes months to finish shows.

I don't know how anyone with a full time job and a kid can watch more than 2 episodes of anything.

You just cant be involved in discussions about the show until you've watched it all.

when is the second half of Arrested Development season 5 going to drop? First half came out in May, still waiting on the second half.

This has not been my experience at all.

Literally with this show, Sabrina, everyone at my workplace binged it except for me. Most watched it twice by the time I saw episode 4. We just talked about the episodes I had seen.

I wish Netflix would release their new shows 1 per week and just have the shows that have already aired be bingeable

Why? This isn’t the 60s anymore. I wish they’d just dump all the episodes at once so we can watch when we want, binge or not

Damn. 3 more seasons right out of the gate? They're just going to start filming real Satanic rituals by the end.

This has nothing to do with old vs. young. It's about the level of conversation you can build around a show when everyone is watching on the same schedule. That conversation can lead to increased enjoyment of the show. It's hard to have that conversation about Netflix shows. Your average Game of Thrones thread here for one episode is probably longer than the season long thread for even a hit like Stranger things.

I'm not saying they should go weekly, but even this Sabrina schedule seems like an improvement to increasing the discussion people can have about a show.

ding-ding-ding

The social media interactions on the Marvel series dropped dramatically from season to season. People lost interest in something that was just a weekend event for them a year or two prior.

I mean, that would be nice. But I'm just asking for the bare minimum - more stunt butt and sideboob.

Are y'all retarded? Just watch them how you want. Watch them every Sunday at 5pm if you want, I don't give a shite. You act like you gotta watch them all at once.

Part of how I've discovered shows like Game of Thrones, Lost and Breaking Bad is seeing large threads on here pop up with regularity while they were live giving me an idea of their popularity and engagement. There is no comparable level of discussion for binge shows even if the quality of the show is comparable. These conversations are important. Even a show on niche service like DC's Titans, which has maybe 3-5 posters watching it, has more of a footprint on this board with it's weekly release schedule than a show like Stranger Things.
