What was the name of the Denzel Washington movie where he's a detective tracking an ancient demon?
I bet nobody guessed how that was gonna end the first time they saw it.

Agree with a lot of those, The Mist.
Sixth Sense was the best though. Did anyone get it the first time they watched it?

Good lists, made me realize surprise or non-hollywood endings make for some of my favorites.
Mentioned-
and consider great: Usual Suspects, The Grifters, No Way Out, The Departed, No Country...,
good and definite surprises- 6th Sense, The Game,
Momento like Brazil, the whole movie is unpredictable
I'll add-
Chinatown, Seen it so many times it's hard to remember the original surprise
The Player, satisfying
House of Games, small 80's flic worth a view
*for Fatal Attraction, a little shock but could have been great if it would have held to the original screeplay which she framed him and got away. Test audiences snubbed it. Would have been classic like Lechter walking away at the end of SOTL.
biggest Hollywood sellout- The Natural: I can understand for box office but in the novel Hobbs strikes out in the end. He then comes to grips with reality.

Great list so far...
One movie that I sure did'nt see the ending coming was..."The Conversation", starring Gene Hackman and John Cazale, from like 1974. Gene is an electronics expert who deals in spying on people with homemade gadgets for clients who want to know information about people. One conversation he records for a client turns out to be more than he is prepared for.
Great 70's movie during the height of the countries paranoia during Watergate.
Definately worth a watch if you see it on TCM.
