Yeah, but the mirror just might be a piece of the puzzle? Why smash it?

But Locke was blowing up submarines and killing people that could potentially get them off the Island, and everybody loves him.

Don't get me started on Locke, he's an idiot too. I know tons of people love Locke, but his character sucks just as bad.

At this point I hate pretty much everyone but:

Sayid
Flocke
Jacob
Richard
Widmore
Farraday
and Eloise

oh, and the little guy running around in sunbeams with bloody hands seems cool

Yeah, I can't imagine the confusion, helplessness, hopelessnes, pissed-off-ed-ness that Jack--and hell all of them--would be feeling. I would imagine in real life, all that would do some serious psychological damage. Most would probably go Looney Tunes and never come back.

That said, I understand his point that the characters don't act very reasonably or logically a lot of times. But that's more a literary/cinematic device to build/maintain suspense. Most of us would have early on sat down with everybody and been like, "All right guys, let's talk this shite out. What in the Holy frick is going on here? Plane crashes, smoke monsters, polar bears, resurrections, Dharma---are you fricking serious?" But that would have made for a much shorter series.

That reminds me of one of my biggest criticisms of Flashforward, though I know it's necessary.

1) Nobody wants to talk about their flashforward and even get hostile when asked about it. frick that--its ALL I would talk about. Do the dishes, take out the trash? frick you!! Everybody on earth passed out for 2+ minutes and had visions of their futures. Perhaps we should talk this shite out.

2) The flashforwards dont' seem realistic. Nobody seems to realize they are in their flashforward. Since they've seen them, wouldn't they have been like "Holy shite--we're in our fricking flashforward!!!!! This shite is fricking crazy!!!!"

3) "D. Gibbons is a bad man." Mark has traveled all over the world trying to find this man who he thinks is responsble not only for the flash, but in the future for his drinking again, his wife leaving him, his partner's death. But his daughter acknowledges not only knowing him, but knowing he's "a bad man" and there's no fricking follow up question? No, "honey, what do you mean he's a bad man?" Retarded. But again, probably necessary. All part of the suspension of disbelief.

Yeah, but this is just bad writing. If your characters can't act like rational human beings and create conflict, then something is wrong with your story.

I don't disagree. I thought is was kind of a weak writing cop out to justify Jack's smashing the mirrors as something he was "supposed" to do. I don't think most reasonable people would have done that. However, it is pretty consistent with his character's cavalier, not-thinking-things-through actions. And one more thing that will make his ultimate redemption all the more cathartic.

I just think it would have had to have been a much different show if everybody would have acted reasonably. Most reasonable people would probably still be on the beach going "WTF?"

Then Jack is an idiot. I have no problem with that, like I said, either the writers suck or Jack is an immensely stupid character.

The show would be better off if he died actually.

Disagree. You would have conflicts through answers, rather than questions. Characters outside of the current few interesting characters, could have been fleshed out and given real emotions, rather than stupidity (read: Jack and Kate).

For a character like Locke, he made the show tedious. People should have abandoned him as soon as he went off the deep end, would have been a better arc for his story rather than continuously forcing a bunch of irrational folk to actually listen to him.

Real Locke. Not Flocke. That dude was always talking about destiny and pushing buttons and shite. It was annoying.

Locke was right though, even though it lead him to his death: LINK

Not many people liked Locke really. The only reason they went with Locke in Season 4 is because of Charlie's warning and Hurley siding with him. The only person I think that actually liked Locke was Sawyer and ironically maybe Ben (although he loathed him also due to the fact that he was taking his position).

How? I can't think of an overwhelming stupid thing he has done during the series aside from destroying the computer in Season 2 (I hated Locke during that season too). Selfish things, hell yeah, but they benefitted him and only him for the most part. Plus Locke was spot on in just about everything in the series.

Jack was SUPPOSED to do it only according to Jacob, but from JACK'S perspective it was a completely retarded thing for him to do. You are standing in front of a magic fricking mirror that you have no idea what it is looking at, where (dimension) or when, and you decide to break it? Let's not forget the fact that you still don't know why you are on this island??!??

I mean this is Jack's thought process, "So this mirror is reflecting my house, which isn't anywhere near me. Well, is it looking at my house right now? What if it's the past? Am I sure that's my house anymore? Is it magical? I mean I have seen some crazy shite on this island. Remember that time when I saw my dad on the....ah frick it. ARRRGHH Hulk Smash!!!"

This is ridiculous. You're imputing what we (as the audience) knows to Jack. Hell, Jack didn't even know about Flocke until last episode and we've known about him since the middle of Season Five.

Fair enough, and I'm certainly not going to try to talk you into liking him by any means. (Not that I could). And although characters are mostly writers' creations, the actors do bring something to them. And I think Matthew Fox's acting style might be a little off-putting to some and that might manifest itself in disliking the character somewhat.

Maybe, and he might. But I don't think so.

He destroyed a lot of shite that, in the minds of the 815 survivors, could have helped them get off the island.

But again, it makes perfect sense when he's being manipulated. All their actions make sense when you bring in the MIB/Jacob angle.

Selfish, not stupid. Locke didn't want anyone getting off of the Island, and higher forces beyond his understanding manipulated him into this.

That's the point man. Jack doesn't know very much, so why would you destroy a MAGIC MIRROR?!?! All he knows is that it isn't a normal mirror. I am doing the exact opposite, because from our perspective the mirror isn't important at all.
