Yes I read the book, although it’s been 20 years. So why was Hanks bad? I don’t even recall much description of Langdon’s looks and he didn’t have a ton of personality.

quote:The book sucked. They made a really good movie out of it.
The character is a 6’6” blonde haired blue-eyed college football player and professional wrestler. Hell, he even was the Creature from the Black Lagoon. Would’ve been a much better movie with an appropriate-looking actor and staying more true to the book. Especially that awful pathetic ending that they made up.

My favorite for miscast actor is Martin Sheen as Robert E. Lee in Gettysburg.
I recently dialed up some specific scenes just to compare him to Robert Duval‘s Lee in Gods And Generals.
I thought Sheen’s performance was okay. His rebuke of J.E.B. Stuart for his failure to do his job was pretty good. So was Duval’s portrayal of Lee turning down command of the Federal Army Of The Potomac.
Interestingly enough, Stephen Lang was in both Gettysburg and Gods And Generals , portraying George Pickett in the former and Stonewall Jackson in the latter. He did a good job in both I thought. Seeing him play Ike Clanton in Tombstone shows his versatility.
I would think Lee is difficult to cast in the best of circumstances. Not an easy job of casting.
