So maybe Superman wasn't released to VOD early, maybe there's just a new strategy at WB. They seem to be following Universal's strategy.
Jurassic Worth: Rebirth - 34 days
How to Train Your Dragon - 32 days
JW:R made 250 million more with almost an identical production budget.
HTTYD made + 20 million on -75 million budget.
Superman 2025 was a disappointment, however you try to spin it.

And the pvod release window was a stupid point, however you try to spin it.

Except it wasn't. The standard is 45 days from theatrical release. Gunn claimed he wanted most to see it before the release of Peacemaker S2. Only he claimed he 'forgot' when exactly that was, so any errors can be easily dismissed as unintentional.
James Gunn’s Superman (2025) Gets An Early Digital Release
Superman is still flying high in theaters, but you’ll be watching James Gunn’s DC reboot at home sooner than you think.
Fortress of Solitude July 18 - 2025
James Gunn’s Superman hasn’t even finished saving the box office yet, and already DC fans are counting down the days until they can stream it at home. Unofficial sources have confirmed an August 26 VOD release. That’s just 45 days after its theatrical debut. But that’s not a glitch. That’s the new standard.

Official Announcement (August 12, 2025): Gunn announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Superman would hit VOD on August 15—just 35 days after theaters—much earlier than expected. Warner Bros. confirmed this shortly after, with Gunn explaining in a Screen Rant interview that the move was to ensure viewers caught Superman before Peacemaker Season 2 premiered on August 21. He noted: "I originally thought Peacemaker was going to be coming out next month... There was a lot of things that are beyond our control, so that Peacemaker is coming out now, and... I wanted everyone to be able to see Superman that wanted to, even those people who couldn’t get to a theater before Peacemaker."

How did I try to spin it?

Superman 2025 was a disappointment
That's your subjective opinion based on your own personal expectations. Something you've expressed quite often but not something that I find particularly interesting. You formulated your opinion before the movie was released based on other people's opinions. Frankly I would be embarrassed to do that but good for you.

The problem is that it is being directed by someone who cannot crack the code for Superman. Any chance I thought of possibly seeing this movie is gone right out the window now.

Based on their opinions about things anyone and everyone could see coming. James Gunn himself said that cracking the Superman code was hard for him. It shouldn't BE that hard. Especially if you're put in charge of setting up an entire universe around him.
And not surprisingly, the concerns brought up BEFORE the movie dropped turned out to be valid. The 2 things Gunn knew most about regarding Superman, his own dog and the stereotypical. hayseed white trash farmers HE saw in his youth are what he used to connect with the character.
Gee, how did I KNOW this movie would be so underwhelming before it came out? Probably the same way as I knew Rings of Power was going to be complete trash. Those in charge of making it weren't talented enough for their respective projects.

It's hilarious how the narrative has changed. When the M/TV's whipping boy made a movie with Batman and Superman and it made around $900 big ones the narrative on here was, "The fact you have the two biggest comic heros and gross less than $1billion is a travesty!". Now one of the Marvel fanboys' heros crosses over to DC and makes a Supes movie that barely breaks even and they are doing gymnastics to try to convince us it was a hit. Interesting...

I haven't really seen anyone doing this though. Certainly people can have their own opinions about a movie and think it was a "hit" in terms of quality. I haven't seen anyone claiming it was a financial hit at the box office.

Success!!
No way. Even though SEK started this thread using the Nielsen chart as a metric for success, and, thus, definitive proof of Superman's lack of success, now that the movie is charting well on Nielsen, these numbers will be "meaningless" and come from "shills."
What a surprise

Made 615 at the box office. Not 750. Not 700. Not even 650… it did worse than Snyder’s superman.

We are just oversaturated with streaming. HBOMax has less than half as many subscribers as Netflix, just over half of what Amazon Prime has, and less than Disney+. With subs split up between them, numbers are going to keep getting lower.

We all know that. This thread, started by you, is about streaming numbers. Do you have anything to add regarding these new figures?

The numbers are the numbers.

Guess what, WB is for sale and there have been 3 offers. Gunn just did an interview saying he may not be around to finish the storylines for the DCU. Guess who was right again?!!

Yeah, no shite. Zaslavs plan has always been to flip it. But how about staying on topic and discussing streaming numbers?
Posted on 10/24/25 at 8:52 pm to RLDSC FAN
Hey, if you want to take a win on the streaming numbers topic after a subpar theatrical run, go for it. But unlike a soft box office open, which can then rebound with good word-of-mouth, streaming isn’t really gonna save this movie or universe.

It did worse than Aquaman 2 lol. Massive hit
