I am going to set aside the idea that he didn’t assasinate a condemned man just beyond the wall. Perhaps there is something with the Wight’s magic.

But after months of mining dragonglass and having men at his disposal, why the h-e-l-l didn’t he take archers with dg arrows? He could have ended the whole damn war by just raining down arrows on the Night King when they were on the frozen lake.

He went to get one wight, did not plan on seeing the Night King at all. Plus I doubt the NK would just sit there if Jon had archers

His whole plan was to get between Dany’s legs. He needed her to be vulnerable after losing a dragon.

I goat roasted for saying this all last season but Jon snow is a horrible battlefield tactician who lets his emotions run wild and is easily goaded into stupid moves and usually gets lucky by having people come save him.

This isn't surprising. He's tried to tell everyone that he's not a leader.

People naturally follow him by his example but he's never shown high level calculating skills.

You could tell this by how quickly he was to say he was going to lead the mission after Jorah was trying to seem all brave in front of her.

Nice try Jorah

There are only 2 people in the entire show who have shown any battlefield tactical prowess and that's Cercei and Tyrion. The rest just stupidly charge into battle without a real plan.

It was a stupid plan, but most things in season 7 made no sense so whatever

Rob Stark was a pretty good battlefield tactician. He was dominating things up in the War of the 5 Kings. He just had zero sense of the politics of being a king.

Rob Stark is the GOAT war general in the show. He was whipping Tywin with 1/4 the army.
