I was pumped when this show came out. They rushed through a lot of storylines it seemed - I never read the books - but shot well and it was entertaining enough for TV fantasy which you don't get a lot of.

Just rewatching this now. It really must be hard to write and adapt solid fantasy stories because the hits come so few and far between.

The books are not good, he tries very hard to be the Ayn Rand of Fantasy and they are just derivative. However, I read most of them as at times they are pretty entertaining.

The show was god awful

I might just be a sucker for fantasy good or bad then.

I also bought the first based on liking the show.

No it wasn't. I remember watching it when it came out, and it was decent enough. I know nothing of the books, but the series was a fun watch for me. It wasn't necessarily good, but "god awful?" That's a bit of an overstatement.

Is this based on that shitty fantasy series by Terry Goodkind?
