I think Mike Judge said in an interview once that he does certain jokes like that on purpose. Like one year these guys say one thing, and 3 years later the story changes drastically. It's just his not so subtle way of making fun of it.

King of the Hill isn't supposed to be laugh out loud funny. Its a show about southern middle america. At times it tries too hard, and at times its brilliant.
When mike judge tried too hard to implement social issues is where the show lost it for me. South park does enough of that. KOTH was great because of the great characters in it, not the story imo.

There's no way to not "get" KOTH if you grew up even remotely in that southern, middle class conservative environment. It nails it move than any other show ever has.

how about bill eating the half-cooked spaghetti right out of the pot and eating the sauce out of the jar while standing in front of the stove?
show is great. they particularly nailed the 'road cyclist' living in the house with luann that one time.
