That episode about the killer being recognized by the girl who had received the cornea transplants was crazy.

Always pleasant to see an underrated talent get some late stage recognition.
He showed he had direction chops with First Contact, but his career withered with two films that were beneath him, Clockstoppers (2002) and Thunderbirds (2004).

Good point, but it feels more like a career quagmire.
Speaking of TV directors transitioning to film, I could potentially envision an alternative universe where Frakes wrote and directed The Last Jedi rather than Rian Johnson.
