He stopped being funny when he became an advocate.

He was always an advocate. Hell, every good comedian is pushing their worldview. Otherwise, who gives a shite? Frankly, accusing a political show of having a point of view as some sort of negative is just bizarre. Of course it had a point of view. It had it from Day One. It was primarily to make fun of the news media, but they hit political targets as well.

However, the position he advocated is one that largely doesn't exist anymore. He's an old school New Deal Democrat. Stewart is what a leftist would sneeringly describe as an Establishment Leftist. He believes in American institutions and genuinely thinks its good to work across the aisle. He'd repeatedly hit the point that we have more in common than in difference. The hard left villified him for his Rally to Restore Sanity, just as the hard right did.

He made fun of Fox News a lot because they are better organized and create a bigger target. It's not Stewart's fault the Democrats have largely been incompetent at creating a top down media structure that stays on message for the benefit of its party leadership. And remember, he got Crossfire cancelled. He went after CNN as well, but what's left to do now but kick the corpse? Fox gets more mockery because they are still a going concern. CNN is a dead man walking. And do people even watch MSNBC?

Solid response. Yes, he occasionally poked fun at the left even when the story wasn't huge. The salient point here is that it was with far, far less frequency than his potshots at the right.

I've never understood why people felt he had some responsibility to be "balanced".....its a comedy show. Yes, one with political views, but that doesn't mean he had to have any type of journalistic integrity like say a Fox News.

The right makes it too easy for him not to

No one said he had to be balance. What I said is that he lost his appeal to many by being so overboard in one direction.

I would have tuned in more often had he gone after the full spectrum of politicians. God knows both sides deserve ridicule.

Yea, hard to find anything about Joe Biden, Nancy Pelosi, Sheila Jackson Lee, Hank Johnson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz to poke fun of. You're right.

It doesn't matter if it's 90/10 or 50/50. The fact that he went after liberals over more than the big stories makes what you said false.

You've already said you don't watch it often so how would you know if he didn't?

OK sport. Go back and read my initial post where I said "usually". Then look up the meaning of the word "usually".

Yeah. I don't care if you are right or left, as long as you are FUNNY. Being funny is the clear cut #1 most important thing.

This is like talking to a poodle.

When obama announced the beheading of an American citizen and then proceeded directly to the golf course Stewart had no choice but to go after obama. The story was huge and resonated in a negative way with the American public. Would Stewart have gone after obama otherwise? Probably not.

Those times when Stewart went after the left, and yes that did occur, when the story was relatively benign, was so rare as to barely register as a percentage of the stories reported over the years.
