When the nuke blew up in the 5 mile long Euro tunnel and Jack had to get out in time with the two Army guys, it was a top-notch action scene and really epic and memorable.
But unfortunately, it was only Episode 5 or 6 when it happened, and I imagine the producers were contractually obligated to get at least 8 episodes.
After that the only way to stop the president of Russia from moving forward with war and the only way to tell the president of Russia the truth was for Jack or Greer or the president of the Czech Republic to sneak into the Kremlin and talk to the Russian president in person.
This was an incredibly weak and implausible story line. In theory, the American president could've just picked up the phone and called the president of Russia and said "hey man, here's what's really going on, and we've got all this proof and you you really need to check this shite out."
In a perfect world the season just would've ended after the climax and falling action with the nuke in the tunnel.
Didn't ruin the entire season, but definitely hard to overlook.

I agree, but overall still thought it was a good season and one of the better shows out there.

Big improvement over last season. Jack might need to hang it up if a helicopter can sneak up on him though

You are generally right but I thought the setup was well done, based on the fact the didn't have 100% proof, at first.
1) After the nuke Russian wasn't going to trust anything the US, even the president said, why should they.
2) Jack knew it was short timeline and the US president didn't have 100% proof, thats why they US was planning military action, not diplomacy.
3) Even if the US notifies Russian and they decide to investigate the coup happens before that even starts.
4) So they needed 100% evidence the Russian president had to act on, only a confession would work. Of course they got a confession (somewhat implausible I know) on tape, then super solider Jack saving the day. And they needed a messenger to deliver the message who the Russian president would actually meet, hence the Czech president.
5) My only real critique, the timeline. After getting to Russia, the confession and botched warehouse killing, Jack getting to the border, crossing the boarder, getting transport out to the Baltic (?) Sea, getting on the US ship...combined with the Russian doing the same think before the Russian ship sets sail, feel like a lot.

^^^That's all good stuff to consider, but I still say that it's nothing that a 30 minute Zoom call between the presidents of the United States and the Czech Republic and Russia with some screen sharing involved couldn't have figured out lol.

I enjoyed the season but quite honestly, the above sequence to end the season was absolutely lazy arse writing. They simply rewrote and condensed the Hunt for Red October with damn near the same dialogue using warships instead of submarines. Rouge Russian captain sets sail.. Jack flies out to the baltic to board an American destroyer, ends up in the water, spends a considerable amount of time trying to convince the captain not to do what he's trained to do and averts nuclear war.
btw, the last few minutes involving the old Russian agent were puzzling. He told the guy at his door he wouldn't make things difficult. Was he being led away to be killed? Why was he being killed if in fact that's what we were being led to believe? His entire character was based around this idea that he was not someone who would be easily killed, so why end it in such a way that he seems resigned to his fate?

He was being led away to be killed, as he had done to others in the past.
Why? That’s a different question.

Who was the man that was killed in the woods hunting for wolves?

I just assumed it was for the crime of killing all those Russian scientist. I would argue he was following orders but it seemed like not many people knew what went down way back when.
