Season 2 is almost universally considered to be absolute shite, for a variety of reasons.
First season was pretty good. Seems like a realistic ending and the "villains" were well developed.
Second season was a hard fall off but I made it through it. My wife punched out of it pretty quick but I got through it. Not much pay off but the character is good and could have potential going forward still.

Season 1 is great. Season 2 I started and stopped to finish Shamless since Showtime is free right now. But it was ok through 2.
