To have so many characters/movies over a stretch of years have their story come together was difficult. The Marvel team had plan, stuck to it and delivered is nothing short of incredible. They had some movies that were misses but the overall MCU has actually changed pop culture.

I'm clearly not a Marvel fan boy by any means. I grew up loving DC characters and I will always prefer Batman and Superman to any Marvel character. And I like Deadpool more than anyone in the MCU. But I think Infinity War was about as good as you can do a movie that had to cover so many character and so much story. The balance of fun/comedy and serious/dark was the best I've ever seen.

I don't think comic movies should be ONLY serious or ONLY fun. There's a time and place for both. But Infinity War had to have elements of both, and I think it was pulled of with immense quality and success.

It absolutely NEEDS to stand on the shoulders of the films in the franchise that came before it to hold up.

Arguing for arguments sake. If you haven't watched the prior films in the MCU then why would you want to just jump in to the 19th film in the franchise? Dumb.

I can't speak for people who know nothing about the Marvel franchise. Maybe they didn't like it. Who knows. But Marvel felt like they were in a position popularity wise to make a movie with the wheels rolling from the begining and that has a cliffhanger ending. I think it paid off. The overall fan approval and financial success speaks for itself.

Yes.

You just aren't allowed to dislike The Last Jedi or Ghostbusters(2016)

It feels like a series of scenes in which characters discuss exposition, move from place to place, and then CG versions of those characters punch each other.

I'll grant them a bit of this. You really can't explore the depths of every character's emotion and feeling from the events with this breadth of a scope. But that doesn't really bother me as just about every character in this movie has already had at least one standalone movie already, some as many as 3. So to me, you already have that built in connection and you don't necessarily need that here.

Thanos is the new* guy on the block here and I think deservedly so deserves the focus and attention to dive into his motivations.

The performance-capture technology is great, but there’s still a gulf of disconnect there, and I cannot bring myself to get invested in what’s going on in this guy’s head. The grand motivation for the MCU’s greatest threat is that he’s… very passionate about overpopulation

This is where I completely disagree and think that his motives are a complete and total oversimplification. If anything I think what makes him one of the most relatable (based on the actions in this film because clearly he killed many before) was that after he got the stones he really wasn't motivated by blood lust. After he got the soul stone specifically he really didn't even go out of his way to try to kill anyone. He wanted to achieve the objective of balance and once that was completed he rested.

There's been so many superficial villains before with motives from much less, so I don't really get that.

Dumbest argument I've seen or heard yet. 4th highest grossing worldwide movie of all time begs to differ.
