I can't claim credit, this was seen elsewhere.
Basically, Varys was poisoning Daenerys.

I doubt D&D would give us this explanation, but it's interesting nonetheless.
Basically, Varys was poisoning Daenerys.
Based on the following:
quote:
I think Varys is poisoning Dany Mad King style. At the celebration of the living in ep 4, we see time slow down for Dany with cuts to wine and Varys. Her anger, paranoia, and emotions are starting to show.
Also, Varys is also acting very differently this episode, and he gets a good bit of screen time.
Edit: I wanted to post a time stamp. The 18:00 mark in episode 4.
quote:
Varys: Nothing?
Girl: She won’t eat.
Varys: We’ll try again at supper.
Girl: I think they’re watching me.
Varys: Who
Girl: Her soldiers
Varys: Of course they are. That’s their job.
Varys: What have I told you, Martha?
Girl: The greater the risk, the greater the reward. Varys: Go on, they’ll be missing you in the kitchen.
And then this callback to something Oberyn said:
quote:
"Basilisk blood. It will give cooked meat a savory smell. But, if eaten, it produces violent madness... in beasts as well as men. A mouse will attack a lion after a taste of basilisk blood. But to a man who knows his heart, is not passion a form of madness?" ?Oberyn Martell[src]
I doubt D&D would give us this explanation, but it's interesting nonetheless.

We already talked about this

If they reveal this in the last episode that would be the best plot twist in decades
Not happening though

It would amazing if Bran revealed this after they had been forced to kill Daenerys.
It won't happen, but it should.

It was an unsuccessful attempt so not sure what it would matter

I think that if there is a clever way to do something story wise, like set-up from episodes or even seasons before, and it seems so smart as to almost come off like it would be cool even if everyone kind of sees it coming, and to leave it out would be stupid.....they'd leave it out and do something so plain and dull that the audience literally groans and dies a little inside.

If the leaks are true and Bran is truly all-knowing in past, present, and future, has his silence on major developments been just to preserve his place on the iron throne?

Could you expound on this?

Why would Varys have started that in winterfell? He didn’t know about Jon yet.
It makes sense at Dragonstone though, but you’re talking about D&D here

Theory?
It was plain as day the meal the little bird was attempting to serve was poisoned.

Especially since he says "We'll try again at supper" and the next time we see him is that night and when he hears footsteps coming he takes off his rings (to leave for the little girl?) and just waits to die.

Originally it was because of what happened to Hodor.
Impossible to answer in the final seasons due to the hack writing.

They've never said Bran can see the future.

I took that as him attempting to poison Dany

If he succeeded at supper he would expect her to start acting aggressive/irrational and possibly kill him.

Ahh gotcha. I was thinking of a murder-by-poison scenario

Idk dawg Dany going mad queen because she ate tainted meat is kinda lame
Posted on 5/13/19 at 8:29 pm to wildtigercat93
Because it could mean she didn’t go mad, she was literally out of her mind on something.

Very neat twist but I don’t get it. You wanna protect the realm from potentially being burned by poisoning the Mother of Dragons to a point of madness?
Just seems like he’s pushing her towards what he claims to fear.
