Jake, do you recall the 1987 Carl Reiner comedy, Summer School? Great cast and a great twist on the "teen" comedy of that era.
Anyway for those who are unfamiliar, there is an entire subplot where 2 of the students are budding film critics and have an abiding passion for this film.
And, honestly, the way the film is directed (superbly, some of the elder Reiner's best work as a director, IMHO) I can't tell if the director and screenwriter (Full House creator and showrunner Jeff Franklin) loved or hated the TCM. That's brilliant filmmaking.

I first saw it in the 80's on Elvira's Midnight Macabre.
It was the edited version.
The un-edited is much better I'm not ashamed to say.
Pluto and Tubi both have it available I believe.
