It even brings up the Jeff Davis 8 (which is actually an error, as I don't think was actually an inspiration for anything related to TDS1) and cites the "Murder on the Bayou" docuseries while advising viewers to watch it and notice how it basically mimics TDS1 in terms of the presentation. While a bad cite, it does make a good point about how the art 100% reflected life in terms of the people/poverty/setting.
I believe the actual inspiration is officially the sex abuse scandal in the Hosanna Church in Ponchatoula, but I'll wager money the Ellender Murder (1991) rumors/story, and likely the KKs Corner murder mystery played a part in the genesis of this.
