When I read some of the threads here I feel like I just walked into a 5 star restaurant with jeans on. I must be easily entertained. Shows and movies I find entertaining enough get torn to shreds here. Just a moment of self reflection. Thanks for listening.

This is a message board, not real life.

Enjoy what you choose, don't EVER let outside influence dictate what you want.

Don't forget, a great many people just want to virtue signal.

Many of the movies they fellate on this board are for show.

I've spent my life in the Music world and I started calling it the "Bob Dylan Effect".

In my circles, it's hip to claim to love Bob Dylan, but at the end of the day, many people claiming to worship Dylan don't own a single record made by the man.

Fk the herd, love what you love, period and let the "critics" continue to fling shite from the sidelines.

Besides, LIKING or loving a certain movie doesn't make you more special than the next consumer, it's the people who actually CREATE something that matter.

Subjective perceptions run amok.

quote:eah there's been a few topics on here that's surprised me. I thought something was good and people shredded it, or vice versa. Power of the Dog comes to mind. No way in hell would I ever sit through that movie again but many on here defended it.

I couldn’t even finish that shite and seemed like most people agreed it was bad or at least mediocre

I consider some movies to be boilerplate discussions on film when it comes to wokeness, criticism, OML ranting, etc.

Power of the Dog was a boring, well acted, beautifully shot, snooze fest of a slog to get through.

Black Panther was a fun mid-tier marvel movie that I’m glad got made and resonated with people. I understand the need for representation.

Neither of those movies had any business sniffing Oscar nominations outside of cinematography or VFX.

I’m sure Bros would have gotten some laughs out of most people on the board, despite their opinions on the subject matter of the movie. The media trying to force it and Eichner’s comments didn’t help it.

Instead of critically analyzing the movie, the pushing of certain narratives in the film makes right wing people outrage over stupid stuff they could just ignore, left wing people defend bad art, and people who are in the middle get turned off.

I’m not pretending to be in the middle. I’m pretty far right. I’m not above the fray and have been sucked into a fair amount of shite posting.

But I loved Get Out, Don’t Look Up, and a host of other films skewering my opinions or side of the political/religious aisle. If it’s done well and in an artistic format, I can handle it. What drives people over the edge is BAD politicization of works (WoT, she-hulk, Lightyear, RoP) that are too ham handed.

All forms of media people ingest at different levels. Think of it like food.

For myself I prefer quality in books more than tv, movies, video games and music.

Music is something I just listen to in the car 90% of the time. I would consider my music intake to potato chips. Classic rock, 90s country, and what's popular comes on the radio during my commutes. I'm never going to sit and listen to a classical symphony. Music is generally just on in the background.

Books I would consider my intake to be 4 to 5 star meals. History, political, along with high brow sci-fi and fantasy. I can't read smut or cheesy garbage because I find it a waste of time.

TV, movies, and video games I feel like I can enjoy things across the board. Sometimes you just want a mindless action you barely have to think about like Transformers or a Marvel movie. Other times you want something more in-depth like Band of Brothers or Cast Away. For video games I used to enjoy the potato chip games like Call of Duty and Madden. Now it's mostly focused on what my wife would play and I would also find some enjoyment. Solo games like the Witcher or Batman Arkham Knight are also fun to play every once in awhile that are more in-depth than shooters and sports. Just throwing out examples. I know there are many more.
