Yea and no.
Yes in that he spray paints Nancy Wheeler is a slut on a building and we are supposed to hate that he breaks Johnathan’s camera even though Johnathan takes pictures of Nancy half dressed through a window and probably deserves it, but by the end of season 1 Steve is a genuinely good guy.

One of the weird situations where the actors in real life who are in a relationship don't have the on screen chemistry that actors who aren't humping each other have.
Honestly Charlie Heaton has sucked hind tit since the first season. He's just there. For all the hate that Priah Ferguson gets as Erica Sinclair she's a much better actor with a much better character arc and she's just a glorified extra.

Characters that need to be eliminated from Stranger Things:
Jonathan - #1 by a mile
Mike (just awful now)
Nancy (keep the lesbian, she's better on screen anyway, and she could still fill the void of Nancy)
Lucas' little sister (she was fine as the annoying brat in early seasons with 2 seconds of screen time but now she's just annoying)
...
Characters that I wish would go but probably can't because of the storyline:
Will (he does nothing for this show except may be part of a final storyline via his experience in the upside down)
Eleven (the shown is actively finding ways to hide her from the story now because they don't know what to with her outside of a couple episodes per year where she is needed to save the day. She's basically the Incredible Hulk at this point. The actress being a total bitch IRL also doesn't help much.)
...
So, that leaves this as the best lead cast for the show:
Steve
Hopper
Murray
Joyce
Dustin
Max
Argyle
Lucas (he saved himself this season)
Lesbian
Russian guard guy (good actor)
Dustin's GF and the Mormons
...
Bring back Eddie
